Joseph Wranich Obituary

Joseph M. Wranich Jr., 73, of Lansing, KS, died Saturday, August 31, 2002, at St. John Hospital in Leavenworth, KS. He was born July 27, 1929, in Leavenworth, KS, the son of Joseph M. and Mary Lukanic Wranich. He worked for the General Motors from 1949 to 1952, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, The Purple Heart and the Combat Infantry Badge, among others. He returned to work at the Fairfax GM Plant, where he worked until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of the UAW Local 64, The St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. He loved his vegetable garden and coin collecting. He married Mary Schwartz on October 13, 1954, in Basehor, KS; she survives at the home. Other survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Lottinville, St. Anne, IL, Martie Briggs, Prairie Village, KS, Judy Reilly, Lansing, KS; one son, Joe Wranich III, Leavenworth, KS; one brother, Jim Wranich, Kearney, MO; four sisters, Mary Wise and Millie Pagenkopf, Basehor, KS, Rose McMillan, Santee, CA, and Ann Currier, Kansas City, MO; eight grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home, Leavenworth, with the Rev. Father Michael Stubbs officiating; burial with military honors will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday with a parish rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Memorials are requested to the St. Francis de Sales Building Fund or to the American Heart Association.
