Kara Walters Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kara Anne Walters, 30, who died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on October 26, 2025, at Kansas City Hospice House after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Born in Lee's Summit, Missouri, Kara was a vibrant soul whose creative spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. A true Renaissance woman, she channeled her artistic gifts into multiple passions – writing heartfelt stories and freelance articles, composing original songs on her guitar, and crafting unique jewelry pieces that she shared through her entrepreneurial venture Summer Daydream Studio. Her ability to find beauty in everyday moments and transform them into art – whether through words, music, or jewelry – was truly remarkable.
Kara earned her Bachelor's degree in English-Creative Writing and Communication Studies from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, where she was an active member of the international English Honor Society Sigma Tau Delta-Nu Theta and a regular contributor to Her Campus, a media platform founded by and for college women. Her academic journey reflected her love of storytelling and her commitment to honing her craft as a writer.
Professionally, Kara dedicated herself to serving veterans as a grant writer for the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Kansas City, where her compassionate nature and skilled writing helped secure vital resources for those who served our country. Her work reflected her deep commitment to making a meaningful difference in her community.
Kara's adventurous spirit knew no bounds. She embraced life fully, whether catching waves during surfing lessons, gliding on her roller skates with infectious enthusiasm, or embarking on solo travel adventures that fed her independent soul. She found joy in live music venues and cheering at sporting events, always surrounded by the many friends who adored her quick wit, kind heart, and genuine warmth.
Kara was also an active and much-loved member of her local Gilda's Club, a nonprofit organization that serves those impacted by cancer. Kara found invaluable support and lifelong friends through her participation with Gilda's Club and offered support to others even while navigating her own cancer journey.
Kara was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Michelle in 2013, whose memory she carried with her always. She is survived by her father, Tim of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as a chosen family of close friends – all of whom treasured her deeply and will forever hold her in their hearts.
In lieu of flowers, Kara requested that donations be made in her memory to the CJD Foundation to support families affected by prion disease, a cause close to her heart. The family wishes to thank the staffs of KU Medical Center and Hospital and Kansas City Hospice House for their kindness, dedication and care of our beloved Kara.
Those who knew Kara will remember her as a beacon of creativity, laughter, and kindness – someone who could light up any room with her humor and draw people together through her generous spirit. Kara's light may have left this world too soon, but her creative legacy, the joy she inspired, and the love she shared will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew her.
