Karen was a pleasure to work with. She was intelligent, honest, prepared and straightforward. In short, a class act.

To Karen's family:

Like many who have already written, I also had the pleasure of working with Karen in the field of workers' compensation when I lived in Kansas City. Karen called me about a year ago at my office in Springfield and I learned for the first time of her illness. She knew the battle she was facing and yet somehow she was able to comfort me when I became emotional about the news of her illness.

I did not learn of Karen's death until today. I do not need to tell you what a remarkable young woman Karen was. I am blessed to have known her. May God keep you and comfort you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I had the privilige of opening working with Karen at Shughart Thomson and at Foland & Wickens. Although we lost touch after she left Foland & Wickens, I will always remember her as someone who was professional, loyal and spoke lovingly of her family. I hope that the knowledge that your wife and mom touched so many people in so many ways is a comfort in the days and months ahead.

Brian, Konner and Brett - I met your wife and mother when we were very young silly school girls in Russell. My two fondest memories were swimming at the Elks pool with the "guys" in the summers throughout middle school and High School, and of course our sorority sister days at KSU. Karen was one of my dearest friends throughout high school and college because she always accepted me for who I was. I feel fortunate that we saw each other on occaision before we both got married and after. We were in many activities together throughout our life and just really enjoyed each other's company. Your mom was an amazing friend to all those around her. She was always so mature (never petty), trust worthy, and so amazingly talented. I remember how she would play her violin - it was just beautiful. She and I would often push each other to really do our best in school and all the activites we were involved in. She was such a good person. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this loss, especially after she gave such a great fight. I will remember her always, and I'll keep you close in my prayers. My sincere blessings.

I have known Karen since 1992. I am a close friend of her husbands and got to know Karen very well over 15 to 16 years. Karen was a wonderful mother and a very supportive and loving wife. Karen was someone who always made me feel welcome in her home and always made me feel as if I was part of the family. To us, Karen was family. We hope and pray for her family during this difficult time.

Karen was an amazing person who had a natural gift for caring and giving. As a wc adjuster with Karen as defense counsel on several cases, I had the privilege of learning from her. She offered her friendship and sorrow following the loss of my sister 2 years ago from breast cancer. Karen spoke so highly of her family whom she held so dear. She will be missed. My prayer for her husband and children is comfort and peace in knowing she lives with her Savior in Heaven.

Brian and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't know Karen but we all know of your devotion to your family. She sounds like an incredible mate and I'm certain her life was a testament to her values. Your family seems to have been a source of strength and support for her. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Konner and Brett.

I was so sorry to hear about Karen losing her battle with breast cancer. I was her secretary both at Shughart Thomson and when we opened the new firm of Foland & Wickens. Karen was a hardworker and a good attorney. I wish I had been more in touch with her after she left (I think we met for lunch once). I pray for her family during this sad time (especially the children). It is never easy losing someone, but we can hold on to our memories. May God Bless you.
