Kathryn Corbin Obituary

Kathryn Timberlake Corbin, Belton, MO, went home to be with the Lord Jesus on May 23, 2008. Kathryn was born October 5, 1912 in Odessa, MO, the second child of Isaac and Minnie Van Meter. She graduated from Warrensburg University where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. She married Frederick Louis Timberlake on July 18, 1936 in Odessa, MO. They were married for 31 years. Frederick preceded her in death in 1967, as did her second husband, Lee Corbin in 1998. Kathryn and Frederick were preceded in death by their son, Scott Van Timberlake in 1956, who was the inspiration for their devotion to causes benefiting the United Funds and Cerebral Palsy Associations. Kathryn was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Kansas City where she attended for 37 years and served in many leadership capacities. Kathryn was well known in Kansas City and was many things to many people. She was wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and friend. She was an elementary school teacher, teaching in the Kansas City School District for many years at Knotts and Pershing Elementary Schools. Kathryn was actively involved with StoneCroft Ministries where she served as the Chairman of the Christian Women's Fellowship in Sun City, AZ., where she lived for 25 years. She started the first Bible study groups for StoneCroft Ministries in Sun City and was an unofficial welcome greeter to newcomers to Sun City, getting them connected with other residents through StoneCroft Ministries outreach and her church. Kathryn was also active in tennis, bowling and hiking. While living in Sun City, she became quite involved in calligraphy, which was another avenue for her to share her faith and help people connect. She moved back to the Kansas City area in 1999 as a resident of The Atriums in Overland Park, KS. Kathryn's winning smile and outgoing personality served her well again as she made herself the unofficial welcoming committee to newcomers, helping them to feel welcome and to get to know others. Recently, she lived in Timberlake Care Center in Kansas City, and Beautiful Saviour in Belton, MO. The family also wishes to thank the staff at Kansas City Hospice for their wonderful support. "Others, Lord, yes others – let this my motto be" This was Kathryn's lifetime motto. Survivors include one daughter, Kay Bryant of Tehachapi, CA and one son, Frederick Louis Timberlake, Jr. of Belton, Mo., five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Mt. Moriah Funeral Home on Tuesday May 27, 2008 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 P.M. with a graveside service immediately following at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kansas City Hospice. Arrangements: Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home 816-942-2004.
