I will always have cherished memories of Kurt, Mortal Reign and the KC metal scene. I played in the band Brutality. Myself and Mark our drummer would go to every Mortal Reign show and party we could find. We loved Mortal Reign and the extra heavy sound they dropped on the city. The legendary KC under ground warehouse party scene will never be forgotten. Thank you so much, for all the hard work that the whole band put in. To the mother and son, your husband and father will never be forgotten!!! I am so sorry for your loss. Words can never ease the loss, just know that many many peoples lives were made fun and better and the bands made to play heavier because of Kurt. He is a KC Metal god and legend!!! May his soul play for the angels and create a mosh pitt in the clouds!!! REST IN PEACE BROTHER

Kurt was always a happy funny guy. Sadly I learned of his death earlier this year from a mutual friend at Big Dudes Music City. Phenomenal musician. Tammy we only met a couple of times. I dated Alan Burger for two years during the operation to fuse his leg.Keep the memory alive. Prayers for you and your family.

Tammy and Cole,
We always looked forward to the times that Kurt, Tammy and Master Cole would come to north Missouri to visit. I always knew that when he was around no matter what kind of day i had he would make me laugh and the day would get brighter. He always had funny stories or jokes to tell. He was always such an upbeat Family man.We miss him with all our hearts and know he was very proud of his family. Cole your daddy was one of the best men around.

Uncle Kurt was always so much fun. My favorite memories are when we had the annual Birthday pool party at Grannie & Marvin's for Kurt, Dee, and Marvin. We had so much fun drinking beer and swimming. After we had a delicious meal of ribs we would play games. This particular time we played dominos Mexican train. Uncle Kurt & I had a little too much to drink and we started making our own rules to the game. We made Grannie pretty angry but it was in good fun and we were cracking ourselves up! Uncle Kurt was so proud when he finally got to have a little boy of his own. He glowed when he talked about Cole. I also remember being young and going down to the building in the bottoms and being amazed that my uncle was a rock n roll star. It was always so loud ha ha but I loved being there. I miss him so much, sometimes I wish he didn't have to go so soon.

This is such a wonderful tribute to an amazing person! Kurt was always such a kind, confident, proud of his family and his beautiful wife man! I always respected and loved being in the presence of Kurt and Tammy. You could just feel the connection between them! He was so good to his family, and his beloved dog.. my memories are of the first float trip I got to go on. The out of this world shows with Mortal Reign, and the fun parties! Seeing the pictures of you and Cole are such a sad but sweet reminder of the kind of man he was! Truly missed, never forgotten, and forever a rock star in our hearts! much love to you...Julie PS I really will look for pics and post anything I have here! keep in touch Tammy...

I was truly shocked and saddened today when I find out about Kurt's death. I was in a many of Mortal Reign's mosh pits. There was one time at the Lonestar that I just about took Tammy out. Man was I glad I was able to stop as I would have not liked being on the receiving end of Kurt's fist.

I was in a band with Kurt years ago, he was always completely kind to me, a great musician, and never said a harsh word. I didn't keep in contact over the years, and now as I look back, I've never wished that I knew someone more. He taught me that important lesson. God bless and much love to all.

I also have some foto,s Ive recently found, I will be posting on this web sight In the near future.
I hope that seeing these pictures brings a smile to your face ! It did to me!! It was my 18th birthday party, and his facial exspressions, made my birthday!!!!

Mike Reed

December 23, 2007

Sorry for this late addition, I didn't notice the option of signing the guest book until recently. I've seen Kurt's metal band MORTAL REIGN many times between 1986-1995. Even got to hang out with the band after the show on several occasions. I remember Kurt as having a 'real' rock & roll sense of humor. For those of you that do not remember my name, I used to do many CD and concert reviews for Banzai Magazine and until maybe 1998, I went by the pen name Love Beast. I have sort of out-grew that name. Last time I had bumped into Kurt was at a ZZ TOP concert a few years ago. Kurt, you will be missed. Rock 4-ever on.

We know Kurt from the Mortal Reign days. He was a great music talent, and a really cool guy. My son is 13 and a drummer. He loves Mortal Reign and just found out his Dad use to be friends with one of the best, he flipped. We are sorry for your loss and plan to attend the tribute in September. God seems to always take out the good ones early, He is up to something and He knew He could count on Kurt's enthusiasm. Peace be with you and your family.

It's been many years since our paths had crossed but I'll always have fond memories of Kurk. His music and the company of many helped me through some hard times. My thoughts are with his family. Be strong for time will help heal the pain.

July 16, 2007

Tammy-

John and I just heard of Kurt's passing. Our family sends their deepest sympathy to you and Cole. Kurt was a wonderful guy, a great friend to John and I. There are so many memories that we all shared as we grew up together. Many nights at One Block West, or just over at his house while him and his band were jamming. He always a a great big smile on his face, what a privlege it was to know him. I will never forget my wedding day, as he was one of John's Groomsman, he came running to tell me that he forgot his socks. He ended up sockless in a Tux, and proudly walked down the isle. Although we have not kept close in touch with you guys, know that we often think about old times and Kurt was a huge part of our past. Please know that our prayers are with you and your family, and Kurt will be deeply missed.

No words can express this loss. Kurt inspired me at a very young age of 14 as a musician and as person when I first met him. I was a young drummer watching how the big boys did things. His presence onstage, in the community, as a father and husband will be missed forever. I'm grateful to have known him. Tammy, God bless you and your family.

Kurt was one of the first guys I met when I started promoting rock and metal bands. He was in the 1st issue of Banzai magazine. He had more Banzai awards than any other musician in Kansas City. After 20 years on the KC music scene, I still consider Mortal Reign to be one of the greatest bands to have come along. I'm saddened to see him go.

Tammy and Cole, I am heartwrenched for your terrible loss. When I heard Kurt had become a decorated police officer, I was amazed. Yet, it made sense. Kurt cared. About all of us. I am fortunate to have many fond memories of Kurt. I have no doubt that he was a shining star in the PD just like he was the shining star of the stage "back in the day". I am fortunate to have many fond memories of Kurt.
Blessings upon you and Cole.

Kurt, it always seems to be that the nicest people get taken first. Even though I did not get to work with you on the road, I never heard one complaint about you. You were the nicest person, I believe, that worked for this police department. I wish I could have known about your other life before you past, as I truly envy you to be able to do what only some people dream about. Tammy, remember that Kurt is now your guardian angel and he will be watching over you and Cole. Hopefully that thought will bring you peace during the dark times.

My sincere condolences to Kurt's family and friends.

I knew Kurt back in the Mortal Reign days and considered him to be a true class act. While I've not seen him in a number of years, I'm sure he lived his life to the fullest...with no doubt, a smile on his face.

Rest in peace Kurt. You will be missed.

July 6, 2007

Kurt was a nice guy that always seem to have a smile on his face when I saw him. Even during the hard times he appeared to be grateful for what God had done for him. One of my last memory of Kurt is when he was covering for the SRO at one of the high schools. I called the school with a question about something, and spoke to Kurt. After we both brainstorm for a few Kurt told me "Man we don't know I'm just subbing today so leave me alone, call back tomorrow when Russell is here!" We both laughed and got off the phone.
To the family, stay prayful, and stay faithful.
