LeAne Story
July 30, 1942 - September 17, 2021
Leawood, Kansas - Our beloved LeAne Sue Burnett Sawyer Jones Story was the only child born to Corrine and Leo Burnett of Prairie Village, KS. She attended Prairie Elementary, Indian Hills J.H. and Shawnee Mission East High. LeAne went on to earn a BS in Education with honors from KU in 1964 She married Tom Sawyer of Hutchinson that same year and gave birth to Kristin Anne in '67 and Thomas Michael the following year. The family moved from Kansas City to St. Louis, New York, and Connecticut before returning home to Kansas in '78. There, LeAne continued her teaching career in Shawnee Mission school district, where she was a devoted and passionate upper elementary teacher, inspiring kids and colleagues alike. Through mutual friends, she met and married Pete Story in '90, enjoying a fulfilling life with Pete and their combined families. She was a wonderful wife and Mom/Mimi/Lele to her adoring family, and admired in the community for her giving, playful, and compassionate nature. She was a tireless volunteer for The Village Presbyterian Church Food Pantry and Mission Sewing and for many years. LeAne's eternal optimism and disarming sense of humor inspired everyone who knew her to live their lives with the same passion and joy.
Donations in her memory can be made to The Village Presbyterian Church Food Pantry or the ALS Association Mid-America Chapter, 6405 Metcalf, Overland Park KS 66202.
There will be a memorial gathering at a later date. For details contact Pete.
