Leta Mae Blankenship, 85, of Blue Springs, MO passed away October 10, 2014 at Wilshire at Lakewood, Lee's Summit, MO. Leta was born July 18, 1929 in Alton, MO to James Harve &Iva Viola (Hand) Bailey. On August 22, 1949 she was united in marriage to Shelby Lee Blankenship who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker, and had attended Little Blue Baptist Church. Leta live at Lake Lotawana for 25 years, then moved to Bates City for 7 years, and then 5 years at Doniphan, MO. Leta enjoyed quilting, sewing, and gardening. In addition to her husband, Shelby, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Reta Ann Adams Combs; sisters, Edith Weaver, and Rosalyn Yates. Leta is survived by her daughter, Wendella Kelly & husband James of Blue Springs, MO; son Jerry Blankenship & wife Bonnie of Bates City, MO; brother, James Bailey & wife Marie of Berkley MI; sisters, Louise Harwell of St. Peters, MO, Imogene Johnson & husband Frank of Holden, MO, Mary Lee Carter of Blue Springs, MO; brother-in-law, Donald Yates of Kansas City, KS; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 3 great- great grandchildren & many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Leta will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St., Blue Springs, MO, 816- 229-3276, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Contributions in memory of Leta may be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society.
