Mary Mariani D.D.S. passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014 following a brief illness. Dr. Mariani was born January 19, 1962 in Eureka, KS the third of six children born to Ted and Marlene Mariani. After graduating from Eureka High School she attended Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. In 1988, She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Missouri School of Dentistry in Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Mariani served as Community Health Care Inc.'s Dental Director since March 1999. Since 1992, She has served as the Adjunct Faculty Member of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in the Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry. In 1997 she completed the Armed Forces Institute and Pathology Forensic Dental Training. Dr. Mariani participated in providing free dentistry to children at the Iowa Mission of Mercy. Her professional memberships included the American Dental Association, Iowa Dental Association (President 2013- Present), Iowa Dental Foundation (President 2012), Davenport District Dental Association (President 2006), Scott County Dental Society (President 2001), Iowa State Dental Identification Team, Disaster Mortuary Operation Response Team Region VII, American Society of Forensic Odontology. Dr. Mariani was devoted to the Catholic Church and was a long standing member of PEO. Dr. Mariani is survived by her parents, sisters Gina Marshall, Libbi Mariani-Pitalo (Mike), Cecilia Mariani, and Catherine Bettis (Troy) and brother Richard Mariani (Bobbi) along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncle, and close personal friends. A visitation will be held at Koup Family Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15. Mass and Christian burial will held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eureka, Kansas 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16. A rosary will be said at 9:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Oaks Marme Catholic Worker, Eureka Public Library or the Iowa Dental Foundation and left in care of Koup Family Funeral Home P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045 which were in charge of service arrangements.

I just heard about Mary's passing. Mary was a year behind me in school but we had band, choir, debate and drama class together as well as the annual fall high school musicals. Mary always had a smile and was quite enthusiastic about what she chose to participate in. My most sincere condolences to her family.

I just found out about Mary or I should say Dr. Mariano and I feel very sad as she was my dentist for some time and I looked forward to going to the dentist as she was gentle and caring and always had a smile and a joke. she will be missed deeply and IM sure my visits to the dentist will never be the same. I was a classmate of Mary's. I was fortunate to be able to keep in touch with Mary through our activity with the ADA. She and I were Presidents of our state dental associations at the same time. She was always very passionate about dentistry and full of life. I will miss her smiling face. My prayers are with her family. God Bless!
