Matthew Walsh
Matthew Thomas Walsh, age 23, formerly of Overland Park, Kansas, was killed in front of his home in St. Louis, Missouri on Sunday, August 31, 2008. Matthew was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on July 23, 1985 and relocated to Overland Park at the age of 11. He went on to work several jobs, including 3 years at Dean & DeLuca, during which he attended the Aviation Institute of Maintenance. He graduated with honors and a perfect attendance record in January, 2008. Matthew met the love of his life in Jamie Wolff of Junction City, Kansas. Matthew and Jamie were wed on June 11, 2005. Their daughter was born March 6, 2008 and they could not have been happier. The family had moved to St. Louis in May where Matthew began his career as an aircraft mechanic. Matthew leaves behind his wife, Jamie, daughter, Scarlet Grace, parents, Tom and Valerie Walsh of Overland Park, brother, Jeremy of Overland Park, sister, Elaine of Orlando, FL, grandparents, Cletus and Kathleen O'Sadnick and Lillian Walsh of Albuquerque, NM, parents-in-law, Bob and Toni Wolff of Junction City, KS, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2008 from 6 to 8pm at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park. A memorial service will be on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 3:00pm at Blue Valley Christian Church, 12251 Lamar, Overland Park. In lieu of flowers, a special account has been set up for Jamie Walsh at UMB Bank to help the family. Any monetary donations can be made out to Jamie Walsh and sent to the family home, in care of Tom Walsh in Overland Park. Matthew would tell us that "it"s all good." He will live forever in our hearts; he will not be forgotten. (D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas 66210, 913- 451-1860)

I didn't know Matthew. But he seemed like he would be a great guy. Saying sorry isn't going to help, I know. But...just knowing that this happened is enough for me to say it. I am sorry for what has happened. Truly. I wish there was something I could do. But keeping him in my heart is the best I can.

To Jamie, Scarlet and the Walsh family - it has been a few years since the tragic day but I know that time alone cannot fully heal your wound. I never knew Matthew and happened to find this website on a text book I bought. I pray that your peace is renewed each morning by Christ who died for us all that we may be free. May the Holy Spirit be your comforter in the days ahead. RIP Matthew Walsh! God Bless, Pete

Hold tight to your family and your signs. Sometimes it's hard to separate the two. Personally, I believe God gives us those signs as a gift. It allows you to be comforted by both him and Matthew. I will pray that his mercy will shine down upon all of you. Take care and know that you're loved.

I did not know Matthew, but when I read his obiturary in the KC Star, I was moved to learn more; and my heart goes out to you and your family--it was such a senseless crime--and huge loss. I am so grateful for each day that I have on this earth--as someone had told me that "tomorrow is never promised."
Perhaps you can take some comfort in knowing that you have a beautiful grandchild that will carry on his name.
God Bless you and your entire family, and thank you for sharing Matthew's story.

Tom, Val and family --
My prayers continue to be with you. As you remember Matthew and miss his presence, may you, in the midst of watching and waiting and weeping, hold fast to the knowledge, the hope, and the truth that the day will come when we shall behold Jesus face to face, and with him, all our loved ones who have gone on before. God bless you.

My daughter and I stopped at the park during Justice for Matthew.I spoke to Matthews' father-in-law, and was terribly moved by the story.Although I wasn't one of the many people lucky enough to have known him, it broke my heart.The thought of a young wife going on alone and a child growing up not having enjoyed the love only a father can give, nearly tore my heart out.Our family will remember you in our prayers, and also pray the person responsible will be caught. It won't bring Matthew back, but at least there will be some closure. God Bless You

God Bless all who loved him. My brothers and I, too, all experienced "signs" after our parents' deaths. There is so much we are not meant to know; but if nothing else, the signs appear to help us heal the raw pain of losing a loved one in such an untimely way. You will all be in my prayers, especially for Matt's darling daughter.

I remember hearing about Matthew, cant believe it has been a year. My heart just aches, I can't imagine your pain, as the mother of a wonderful son, Ryan, 25 and my precious grandson, Brady, 11months, I can't even think about how I could continue without them. God Bless you and your family for all your strength and fantastic tribute and memory garden to Matthew. I too, believe in "signs", after losing my mom suddenly 5 years ago, I really believe, these "signs" from her sustain me and my faith! May the Lord bless you and keep you warm in his light. To Matt's Loved Ones,
Matt was a very special young man and I knew it from the first time I met him when he came to visit AIM. I was devastated to find out about his death. Please know that he has a special place in not only my heart but the hearts of many of the instructors and his fellow students. To Jamie, Scarlet, and the Walsh family;
My heart is just broken for you. I heard the terrible news today when I arrived at work, and am beside myself with grief at the loss of this amazing guy. Matthew and I worked together at Dean & Deluca, I in the bakery, and many nights when I worked the closing shift, I was so glad to have Matthew to keep me company and make me laugh. Matt was the first one I went looking for when I saw Sacha Baron Cohen in the store, because I trusted his judgement. I was completely taken aback when I learned his age; he was so smart, mature, and had his head screwed on right. I knew he was going on to big things in life, and that he'd he a fantastic dad. He was so thrilled he was going to be a daddy, and so proud of Jamie and little Scarlet. We were all just shocked to find out he's gone; I can still hear his laugh back in catering! My thoughts are with you, and remember, "The key to immortality is living a life worth remembering." I will always remember my friend, Matthew Walsh.
