Modest Compos Obituary

Modest Compos
February 24, 1929 - January 12, 2021
Kansas City, Missouri - Modest Compos, 91, of Kansas City, Missouri, joined her husband, John, and son in heaven on Jan. 12, 2021. She is greatly mourned by family and friends. Modest was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on Feb. 24, 1929. Growing up, she spent her days helping her father pick herbs and vegetables from their garden and her mother with household chores. Her name suited her. She was soft spoken, gentle and kind. She was introduced to her soulmate, John, by a friend, they fell in love and were married on July 19, 1947. She was part of the Guadalupanas of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and attended Catholic church as long as she could. She and John had a beautiful family, traveled and hosted many friends and family in their home. She was a homemaker who loved and cared for her family, teaching them, celebrating their victories and rooting for them. She was known for her long phone conversations, creative mind, beautiful singing voice, contagious laugh and warm embrace. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; son John Edward (Johnny Boy); her parents, Augustine and Petra Rivas; two sisters, Frances Rivas and Marian Banda; two brothers, Edward (Lalo) Rivas and Augustine (Tino) Rivas; and granddaughter Monica Pendleton. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Lapadino; son, Richard Compos; five grandchildren, Tina, Angela, Antionette, John Joe and Mary Rose; and 11 great grandchildren, Ondrea, Aysia, Ricky, Lila, Brianna, Manya, Coraline, Sophia, Vincent Jr., Tianna, and Nataliya; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is buried at Mount St. Mary's Cemetery.
