Nanette McBride Obituary

Nanette McBride was born January 21, 1961, in Houston, TX. After a lengthy struggle with a lung disorder, Nanette passed at 11:03 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2003, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Nanette never knew a stranger. Her kindness and generosity were felt by so many. She taught us strength, hope, humility, the power of laughter, the meaning of pure love and that life is to be treasured. All of us who are left behind take comfort in knowing that her spirit is within us and always will be. She will be missed more than any words can possibly describe. She was preceded in death by her brother, John M. Box Jr. Survivors include her daughter, Gabrielle Rae McBride, 15; Mr. and Mrs. James E. Hunter; Dr. and Mrs. John M. Box; Alicia Andrews and her husband, Thomas; Mary Carlsson and her husband, Gunnar; Phyllis Duckworth and her husband, Mark; Abigail Steinbach and her husband, Sean. "Celebration of Life" will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Blue Hills Country Club, 777 W. Burning Tree Dr., KCMO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association. (A message from Gabrielle, for my mother and my wishes, please no black attire.)

I can't believe its been almost ten years. So long your obituary has been archived and I have to pay $3 to view it... ridiculous. I feel you every day and I know that your energy lives in me and every person you ever met. I am a better person because of the 15 years we had together and also for the 10 years we have not. O mama I am so thankful to be part of you. I miss you.

To a sister who was so much fun. You brought laughter, tears and joy to my life. But best of all, you gave me the most wonderful husband in the world.

I miss you more than anything and I am so sad that you have left the world you loved with a passion.

Your forever loving sister,

Nanette was seven when we met.The first thing she said to me was "I have naturally curly hair." She was a beloved step daughter and I will miss her.

Nanette, you and I didn't have many opportunities to see each other, but when we did, they were good times. I will always treasure it that you came to see me after your graduation. That was special. Thank you for the great memory.

I missed all your growing up years, Nanette. I remember you as one of the most beautiful babies I ever saw, chubby and curly-haired, cuddly and kissable. Life takes some strange and sometimes painful turns, but you were a gift of love.

When I moved in next door to Nanette last fall she came over the evening after the movers had left to introduce herself. She realized I would have been too busy to eat and gave me a sack with a softdrink and a sandwich and welcomed me to the neighborhood. She also left her phone number and encouraged me to call her if I had any questions. Whenever I would run into her on the way to the mail box she always had a smile and a few friendly words for me. She even went out of her way to introduce me to other neighbors. Such kindness and consideration for a stranger is so unusual nowadays! I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciated it! She will very much be missed!

Nanette,

At night, when we take inventory of the heavenly skies, we notice some stars burn brighter than others. Those who know inform us that the brightest stars will burn out faster than other, dimmer stars. You were that brightest star, sharing your light with all who had the pleasure of the view. Your light showed many the path, helped those lost to find their way, and shone bright upon those around you. You shared this light with your daughter, allowing her view of all to be brighter than most are allowed to see. Your light accentuated the good in all, and masked a multitude of sins in others, and so your daughter grew to see this good, and to become kind and gentle. She learned to store your light, so later, when faced with darkness, she would have you. Too few would know this kind of rapture, for alas, you buned out far too quickly, leaving darkness, where before, there was light. May eternal light shine upon you, for ever and ever.

You are our guardian angel

That brightens up our day

You are so wonderful

In such a magical way

Your sweet presence comes

As a gift from above

As we are surrounded

By your warm caring love

You are like a rainbow

Your smile is the sun

Our day is full of hope now

Laughter and some fun

You are our guardian angel

I LOVE YOU NANETTE!
