Nathan Jagoda Obituary

Nathan George Jagoda, 92, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at his home. Nathan was an intelligent, generous man who loved his family and had a lifelong passion for seeking and sharing his knowledge of a wide range of subjects. He was born October 26, 1915, in Kansas City, Missouri, the only child of Rae and Jacob Jagoda. He was a lifelong area resident. Nathan was a mathematics wizard, graduating number one in his business class at the University of Missouri Kansas City. He was also an Army Master Sergeant in World War II. In 1941, he married the love of his life, Dorothea Ozar Jagoda. Their union resulted in the births of five children. Nathan took pride in supporting his large family and sharing in their many accomplishments through the years. During their 61 years of marriage, Nathan and Dorothea were fortunate enough to travel extensively throughout the world together and in more recent years with their children and grandchildren. Nathan's love of travel fostered his hobby of photography. He enjoyed taking and developing his own photos and sharing his experiences of the different cultures and places he visited with his family and friends. Nathan was also a hardworking businessman and real estate developer, taking pride in looking out for the future of his family. He founded Modern Art Lamp Products, Tierra Royal Potteries and NFI Real Estate Company. He was a lifelong member of Congregation Beth Shalom Synagogue and major supporter of the Jewish Community Center among other organizations. Nathan was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothea in 2002. He is survived by his five children and their spouses: Sharon Sigman of Prairie Village, KS Steven and Gayle Jagoda of Leawood, KS Eileen Jagoda and Don Ipock of Kansas City, MO, Diane and Allan Horowitz of Longwood, FL and Ray Jagoda of Leawood, KS. Survivors also include 17 grandchildren: Kimberly Sigman, Kerri Sigman Melnick and David Melnick, Lauren Sigman, Jeremy Jagoda, Danielle Jagoda, Justin Jagoda, Mimi and Kevin Karpin, Heather and Scott Shachtman, Drew Horowitz, Jordan Horowitz, Alex Horowitz, Joshua Jagoda, Jillian Jagoda and Ethan Jagoda. He was also blessed with eight great- grandchildren: Skyler Melnick, Devon Melnick, Ava Sigman, Grant Karpin, Aidan Karpin, Elliot Karpin, Talia Shachtman, Isabelle Shachtman and a namesake great-granddaughter to be born in two weeks. Survivors also include sisters and brothers-in-laws Edith Bratt of Kansas City, MO, Dr. Milton and Marilyn Ozar, Delray Beach, Fl, and Lesly and I.I. Ozar of Overland Park, KS, along with many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Nathan's wonderful caregivers Aneta Whitfield, George Madrigal, Lisa Robinson and Sylvester Brown. Funeral services will be Friday, November 30 at 1 p.m. at Congregation Kol Ami, 7501 Belinder Ave. (southeast corner of 75th and Belinder) in Prairie Village, KS. Burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
