DR. NORLAN HENDERSON

1915 - 2016

HENDERSON, PHD Dr Norlan C. Henderson PhD, 100, of KCMO, passed away January 13, 2016. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:30 pm, Saturday, January 16, at Park Lawn Funeral Home 8251 Hillcrest Road, KCMO, followed by Graveside Services with Military Honors at 2:30 pm at Green Lawn Cemetery. A Celebration of Dr. Henderson's life will follow at 5:00 pm at Northwest Bible Church, 6520 N.W. 64th Street. KCMO, also on Saturday, January 16. The family suggests contributions to the Dr. Norlan C. Henderson Fund for the Award of Merit Iris Garden at Powell Gardens. Norlan was born September 2, 1915 in McCleansboro, IL, to Newton C. and Sylva (Deem) Henderson; they preceded him in death as well as his wife, Jean C. Henderson and brothers, Arthur and William Henderson. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army, longtime member of the American Iris Society, Original Board Member of Powell Gardens and volunteer. Norlan was a Professor of Botany at U.M.K.C. for 24 years retiring in 1988. His memory will be cherished by his children, Jim Henderson (Janet), JoAnna Dowling (Lee), Peg Homeier (Ed), N. Clifford Henderson, Richard Henderson (Julie); grandchildren, David Henderson, Kelly Auman (Lamar), Kathy Anderson (Joe), Jeff Colombe, Kevin Colombe, Andy Colombe (Emily); great grandchildren, Ben Auman, Lee Auman, Jon Auman, Austin Anderson, Lucia Colombe, Nico Colombe, Selah Colombe, Giuseppe Colombe; sister, Ruth "Suzy" Lippman and many, many relatives and friends.
