Patricia Conroy Obituary

Patricia Ellen Jordan Conroy died Monday, July 18, 2005 in Houston, TX. Patricia was the eldest of four children born to the late Marie O'Byrne Jordan and Joseph C. Jordan in Kansas City, KS on February 1, 1922. She was educated in St. Peter's Cathedral School and Bishop Ward High School of Kansas City, KS. Subsequent to her honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corp, she graduated from the University of Kansas at Lawrence with a B.A. Degree. On September 3, 1949, Patrica married William J. Conroy of Beloit, KS, son of Ida Ruth Hyde Conroy and Thomas E. Conroy. Upon graduation from KU Law School and becoming a member of the Kansas Bar Assoc., William became an employee of Gulf Oil Corp., working in numerous domestic and international assignments until retirement in 1984. Patricia and William had two children who survive her: William J. Jr. and wife Janet, Huntington Station, NY and Maureen M. McCoy McCroskey and husband David, Youngsville, LA; four grandchildren, William, Austin, John and Kelsey Conroy; and many nieces and nephews. Patricia is survived by sisters, Virginia Potter of Kansas City, KS; Joan Denk of Independence, MO, and Joseph C. Jordan of San Rafael, CA. After Patricia's children achieved school age, she enrolled in Education courses at Loretta Heights College in Denver, receiving a State of Colorado Grade A Teaching Certificate. Patricia taught primary grades in Denver Public Schools. When the family moved from Denver to New Orleans, Patricia taught primary grades in Louisiana for 10 years until the family moved to Singapore. Upon returning to the United States and Houston, Patricia worked several years for oil corporations. Patricia was an avid genealogist holding memberships in the National Society of the daughters of the American Revolutions, Women Descendants of the Ancient & Honorable Artillery Co. of Massachusetts, Descendants of Founders of Jew Jersey, First Families of Ohio, Founders of Hartford CT, Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, The Dames of the Court of Honor, Colonial Dames XVII Cen., Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of The Union 1861-1865, The National Society of Magna Charta Dames, Order of the Crown of Charlemange, Descendants of A Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter and the Sovereign Colonial Society of Americans of Royal Descents. Family will receive friends on Thursday evening, July 21, from 6-8 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway at Eldridge, Houston, TX. There will be a service on Saturday, July 23, at 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit, KS. Following service there will be Rite of Committal at St. John's Cemetery in Beloit, KS. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of choice in Patricia's name. (Arrangements: Harrison Funeral Home, 302 N Hersey, Beloit, KS 785-738-2235)
