Richard Brummel Obituary
June 13, 1950 - March 5, 2022
Kansas City, Missouri - Richard P. "Dick" Brummel, a lifelong Kansas Citian, passed from this life on March 5, 2022. He was a graduate of Bishop Hogan High School, Rockhurst College, University of Missouri-Kansas City and Loyola University New Orleans. He served for 34 years in the Federal Government retiring as the Deputy Regional Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Dick was Catholic and a proud Benedictine Oblate of Mount St. Scholastica Monastery. He was a tireless advocate for others, serving communities at home and abroad. Dick loved to read especially theology, history, and biographies. He spent many hours tending his yard and garden. He was a passionate Royals and Chiefs fan. Dick enjoyed the company of close friends and spent many an hour debating the topics of the day over a craft beer.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Jane, children Nathan (Anna) and Beth (Pip Potter), grandchildren Jack, Luke, and Graham Brummel, and Ada Potter, mother Mary Brummel, siblings Mark (Carolyn), David (Denise), Michael (Diane) and Patty, and sister-in-law Sue Forward. He was preceded in death by his father Harold and brother Phillip.
Services will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church (Main at 75th Street) on Friday, March 11, 2022 with visitation at 10AM followed by Funeral Mass at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Catholic Relief Services

So so sorry Jane. What fun we all had at 75th (including our film star debut of Tapping KC :) ) prior to Coleen and I moving to NC and then kids following that kind of took away us from that circle full time. I fondly remember the trip we took to my Folks farm, hitting the country pubs and visiting the wonderful German Catholic churches in "God's Country ", especially The "Cathedral of the Plains", Saint Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria. Dick was one of a kind and will be missed by many. Peace and Love to You and Your Family.

Dear Nathan & Brummel Family, I am very sorry to learn of Dick's passing. I have fantastic memories of spending time with your family back in my high school and college days - especially the trip to North Carolina back in '96 I think. I went to St. Catherine´s and Bishop Hogan with Dick. He was nice, very smart, good basketball player, friendly, all around good guy.

So very sorry to hear of this! I remember Dick (and his brothers) from our early days of playing baseball and kickball on the dead end street in our neighborhood, when we were in grade school at St. Catherine's. We rode the same bus to Bishop Hogan. My regards to his family members. May his soul rest in peace through the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.
