RICHARD PITNICK Obituary

Richard R. Pitnick, 84, of Linwood, KS, was called home to Our Lord Aug. 26, 2012. Richard passed at his home and was at peace and in comfort. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Fri., Aug. 31. Services will take place at Holy Family Catholic Church, 311 E. 9th St., Eudora, KS. Interment will be at Holy Family Cemetery in Eudora, KS. Visitation will begin promptly at 9 a.m., with the celebratroy mass at 10 a.m. A luncheon will be held in honor of his life immediately following the graveside ceremony at the church. Richard was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. He was born June 21, 1928, in Kansas City, KS. Richard attended Bishop Ward High School and played semi-pro baseball in the Kansas City, KS, area. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served our nation overseas. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army with a grade of E4. Richard and his wife, Helen (Cunningham), were married Oct. 7, 1950, when they began their long- devoted life together in service of Our Lord. While running a successful tobacco and sundries distributorship, Richard and Helen raised their 6 children in Lenexa, KS. In 1986, Richard semi- retired and together, being empty nesters for the first time in over 30 years, they moved from their home in Lenexa to their current home in Linwood, KS. Richard was a member of the VFW, an avid golfer, gardner, barbeque master, wine maker, and quite the handyman. Richard was also very active in his community as well as his church. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine Pitnick, and four siblings: Margaret Pitnick, Mary Pitnick, Ann Bell, and John Pitnick. Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen of Linwood, KS, and his children: Betsy Campbell and husband Terry of Olathe, KS, Richard R. Pitnick, Jr., of Lake Ozark, MO, Steve and wife Marilyn Pitnick of Lawrence, KS, Mary Ann Pitnick of Basehor, KS, Mark and wife Judy Pitnick of Lenexa, KS, and David and wife Terri Pitnick of Kansas City, MO. Richard also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the "Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund," 311 E. 9th St., Eudora, KS 66025.
