Robert Murphy Obituary

Robert M Murphy

June 1, 1943 - September 11, 2025

Lenexa, Kansas - Robert M. Murphy, 82, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on September 11, 2025. Born on June 1, 1943, in Kansas City, Kansas, Bob lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep integrity, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Bob was a lifelong learner and accomplished professional. He earned his bachelor's degree from Rockhurst College, his medical degree from the University of Kansas in 1969, and later completed his MBA from Baker University in 1995. He spent over 30 years as a practicing orthopedic surgeon, caring for patients with skill, compassion, and a deep commitment to healing. His work touched countless lives and reflected the values he held dear: service, excellence, and empathy.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Murphy; his son, Rob Andrade and daughter-in-law, Kim; his cherished grandchildren, Ryan and Anna; his sister, Millie; and his niece and nephew, Jeannie and David. Bob was a steady presence and guiding light in their lives, known for his gentle wisdom, kind heart, and the love he gave freely.

A passionate sports fan, Bob cheered faithfully for Notre Dame Football and Kansas Jayhawks Basketball, finding joy and connection in every game. He also had a deep love for games of all kinds, from cards to trivia, and never passed up the chance for a good-natured competition. In fact, he was known to say, with a wry smile, "I've never lost a game." His enthusiasm for politics and spirited conversation made him a lively presence at any gathering; always ready with a thoughtful opinion, a sharp insight, or a well-timed joke. Bob also found great joy in reading, whether diving into history, exploring new ideas, or simply enjoying a good story.

Bob's legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the family who will carry his spirit forward.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Matt Ross Community Center, located at 8101 Marty Street, Overland Park, KS 66204. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor Bob's life.

Attended St. Peters grade school with Bob. Most then went to Ward where we lost contact as I went to DeLaSalle. Bob made both grade school re-unions and it was great to see him--still always smiling . He is missed!

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I knew him from Ward High School, saw him professionally for minor orthopedic issues, and enjoyed seeing him at class gatherings. He always livened up a room with his booming voice and hearty laugh. Pat Bozich WHS Class of '61.

Uncle Bob was a wonderful, funny, generous and all around beautiful spirit in this world. He was there for all of his family when needed. I will miss Uncle Bob so very much!

Every time I saw him in surgery one pant leg was outside and one was inside of his boots.
He had a great sense of humor and laugh
