Roger Widmer Obituary

Roger was born September 8, 1962, to Casper "Cap" and Hester Widmer of Edgerton. He was a graduate of the GEHS class of 1980. He graduated from JCCC and attended Kansas State University. Roger passed away November 6, 2005, at Olathe Medical Center. He was born with a congenital heart defect and had undergone a recent heart surgery. Roger was unable to participate in sports as a youth, but was an avid sports enthusiast. He worked for Shawnee Mission West High School for years, but spent his more recent years until his death working for the KCPL lab. His father, "Cap," brothers, George and Bill, and infant son, Roger, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Pam, of Shawnee, KS, and five children: Shane, Skylar, Mark, Tessa, and Joy. Also surviving are his mother, Hester, and sister, Sharon Morgan of Edgerton; sisters, Diane and husband, Del Sawyer, of Olathe, KS, Nancy and husband, Harlan Ballard, of New London, IA; brother, Bob and wife, Madhuri, of Overland Park, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Roger had a great sense of humor and never knew a stranger. He had a great work ethic and love of family. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and friend. He will live in our hearts forever. The Widmer family wishes to thank the OMC staff and doctors who did an outstanding job caring for him. Their efforts went above and beyond, but it is in God's timing not ours. Services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, November 10, at Bruce Funeral Home in Gardner, KS, 913-856-7111. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, also at the funeral home. Burial at Edgerton Cemetery, Edgerton, KS. Memorials may be made to the Widmer Children's Education Fund or the Electrician's Union.

I enjoyed working with Roger at SM West back in his "single" days. He was such a hard working and fun loving guy, I know he must have turned into a wonderful husband and father that will be sorely missed. My sympathy to Hester, his wife and children.

I remember Roger Widmer's kind ways in high school. It sounds like even after high school he always found love in the world as well as gave it to others, and I send blessings and support to his wife, children, and other friends and family.

Roger was a very well liked person and friend. Did like to share a colorful joke with Roger now and then. He really enjoyed nachos. Had known Capp and Roger for several years from working with them at the Shawnee mission school district. We will miss him very much. No one was better to joke with than Roger.

I am in shock to hear about this lost of a man that meant really well to everyone everyday. As a fellow employee it is going to be hard to ever forget Roger and his companionship. I wish you well Roger being with the ones you have lost recently that you have missed and we are going to miss you.
