RUBY E. SMITH

Ruby E. Smith left this world on Monday, August 1, 2011. At the age of 91 she was part of this country's Greatest Generation. She spent her last few weeks at the Kansas City Hospice House. They provided excellent care for her and were sensitive to her families needs at this difficult time. Ruby was born In Lexington, Mo., but spent most of her life in Wyandotte County, Kan. The area she loved the most was Laurie, Mo., where she spent 20 years near the end of her life. The past few years she spent with some of her children in Shawnee, Kan. She was a life long member of the Community of Christ Church. She was always very active in her church and eventually became a Deacon. Survivors include her children, Nancy Bell of Versailles, Mo., Dick Smith of Climax Springs, Mo., Larry Smith of Lamar, Mo., Jerry Smith of Shawnee, Steve Smith of Kansas City, Kan., Kenny Smith of Shawnee, Randy Smith of Kansas City, Mo., their spouses and partners. She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 42 great grand children and nine great great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Community of Christ Church 909 Sheidley Ave., Bonner Springs, Kan. This will be followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Cemetery, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kan.
