Salvatore Miceli Obituary

Salvatore ("Sam") Miceli was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 8, 1941, to immigrant parents, Carl and Rose. Growing up in North Kansas City with his younger brother, Dominic ("Donnie"). Sam learned early what mattered most: family, hard work, loyalty, and friendship.

Sam worked more than 30 years with Sunkist Growers before retiring. One of Sam's proudest achievements was helping to found the Jared Coones Memorial Pumpkin Run and serving as Race Director for 25 years. The event raised over one million dollars for cancer research and support.

At 50, Sam found a new passion with the Olathe Running Club. Running brought him a circle of friends who became family. Sam's friendships ran deep and wide. From his high school reunion crew to the organizing team for the race, or long time friends, he treated everyone like they belonged.

Sam loved his people fiercely. He never missed a chance to check in on his brother, Don or have lunch with his son. He made countless trips to Texas spoiling his daughters Lisa and Angela. He showed up for graduations, weddings, and new babies with pride and joy to spare.

Sam was immensely proud of his children and the lives they've built. Sam is preceded in death by his sons, Gregg Miceli and Jeff Miceli. He is survived by his children: Lisa (and her husband, Chris Bartlett), Angela Miceli, and Sam (and his wife, Christine) Miceli II. He cherished his grandchildren: Matthew (and his wife, Carissa) Bartlett, Alex Bartlett, Ryan (and his wife, Abby) Bartlett, Kyle Miceli and Nathan Miceli, Cynthia Jordan, and Aubrey Jordan; and his great-grandchildren, Grace Bartlett and Banner Bartlett.

He is also survived by his brother, Dominic "Donnie" Miceli, and a wide circle of extended family and dear friends who were, in truth, family too.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 21, at Church of the Ascension, 9510 W 127th St., Overland Park, KS.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Jared Coones Memorial Foundation.

Rest in peace, Dad. Your stories, your laughter, and your love are forever stitched into our hearts.

Earlier today

My wife, Cynthia shared this shocking news with me. Sam was a big part of our running family (Personal Best Running Programs and Team in Training). He was a fine human being, a good runner, had a good sense of humor: and we will never forget his bond with Stew, and how Sam took care of Stew. I like to picture them at a heavenly pub sharing stories over a beer or two. Condolences to family and his many friends. Run free, Sam!

Yesterday

A more loyal friend couldn't be found.
Sam always had a smile on his face and a handshake for everyone. His dedication to fiends was exemplified by his commentment to make sure Stew had a ride to and and from Parkinson's exercise classes.
Sam's dedication to the Pumpkin Run inspired & insured that thousands of dollars were available for cancer research.
His warm smiles and great stories will be deeply missed.
Rest in Peace dear friend.
