SIDNEY M. HAMPTON

Sidney "Sid" M. Hampton, 93, Independence, Mo., passed away Monday, August 2, 2010, at his residence. Sid was born Nov. 13, 1916, in Vinita, Okla., to John Allen Hampton and Theodosia E. Haight. Sid was raised in Vinita before moving to Sedalia, Mo., when he was 18. Soon after, Sid joined the Army where he served four years in England. On his discharge he returned to Independence where he befriended Les and Lloyd Stephenson of Stephenson's Apple Orchard where he learned the restaurant business. In 1946 Sid moved to Littleton, Colo., to manage the exclusive Wolhurst Country Club. It was here that Sid met his wife, "precious little" Irene Woody. After a month of dating they were married on Jan. 27, 1947. Sid and Irene returned to Kansas City in 1967 where he continued in the restaurant business. Sid was a Life Member of the VFW and the American Legion. Sid was passionate for his very "precious little" Irene and truly enjoyed dancing with her in their recreational time. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Jack, Paul, Raymond, Bill and Willard. He is survived in death by his wife of 63 years, Irene; sister, Louise South of Fort Morgan, Colo., and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Blue Ridge Blvd. Christian Church, 3625 Blue Ridge Blvd., Independence, MO 64052. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, with a funeral service to follow at 12 p.m. at Floral Hill Funeral Home.
