Stratton Overton Obituary

Stratton Byron Overton

September 15, 1945 - October 17, 2024

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - Stratton Byron Overton, of Myrtle Beach, SC, returned home to Our Lord on October 17, 2024. Strat was born on September 15, 1945, to Harold B. and Gloria Overton (of Leawood, KS) in Pensacola, FL at the US Naval Air Base located there. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and youngest son Blake Fleming Overton. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife Suzanne Overton, his oldest son Ryan Weedn Overton, his brother Bradford Dyer Overton, his nieces Sara Ashley Wilhelm and Samantha Chase Overton, his granddaughter Brianna Grace Adams and her mother Jennifer Christie Adams, his cousin and best friend Tim Sutton, his cousin Tyler Sutton, and step-children Alan Huber and Christy Huber Edwards, and grandson Brandon Allen Edwards, along with many other family, friends, and loving dogs Gracie Under Fire and Ready Aim Fire.

Strat (or Strattie as he was affectionately known) attended Pembroke-Country Day School, UMKC, the University of Kansas, and Tulane University. He was an amazing tennis player, winning the Missouri State High School Doubles Championship. Strat was a member of the Prestwick Tennis Club and a regular participant in the Men's Open Mixer in Myrtle Beach. He was also a member of the Carriage Club in Kansas City, and was victorious in many regional tournaments and club championships. Strat was a Kansas City Royals Lancer, involved with Kansas Special Olympics, and for 40+ years facilitated fundraising for many educational institutions around the country. Early in life he was an integral part of Kansas City Carnival Supply company, the family business.

Strat was a devout member of Pier Giorgio Frassati Catholic Chuch. He loved tennis, baseball, and his dogs, but most of all he loved his family and wife of 35 years, Susie. His quick wit, exceptional charm, and unique sense of humor will be greatly missed.

A private service and later Celebration of Life will be held in Myrtle Beach at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to: The Kansas Special Olympics or https:pruittcares.org

So sad to see you go Strattie (as we called you in grade school). Still have great memories of playing 1-on-1 bball in your driveway on Belinder Lane ... and running your cool Lionel train in winter. Plus the times riding our bikes all around Leawood and summers at LCC. And buying a gross of "Bulldogs" every July 4th from your Dad. I recall how bummed I was when you switched to Pembroke ... and have always thought how great it would have been to keep in touch throughout our years. You were a wonderful devoted friend ... and I hope to see you again when time comes. Thank you Strattie!

When I was a young boy,I would go watch bowling at the Ward Parkway Lanes with My Father John Krugh. Strat was on the Krugh Realty Company Bowling team. The memories were pure fun and Strat was the best bowler when they won it ALL in the Championship! Thank you Strat & Dad.

A kind man whom my mother knew and was very fond of in his youth. He and his younger brother Brad attended my mother´s wedding (Brad was tbe ringbearer) and I was named Bradford because my mother loved the name so much. Prayers are with you always and may you live in the light forever.

I was just the pesky little sister but know how fond my brother´s memories are of both brothers. It is impossible to know where time went but know the Schweiger´s at 8406 Belinder thought the world of your family. God bless. Carol Schweiger Meharry and Larry Schweiger
