Stuart Shandalove Obituary

Stuart Shandalove
May 24, 1942 - August 8, 2021
Overland Park, Kansas - Stuart Kenneth Shandalove passed away peacefully on August 8th, 2021 with his wife of 57 years by his side. Stu Shandalove or "Big Stu" as he was known to his grandkids, was strong, tall, confident, and the life of any gathering. At 6'4" and close to 200lbs, and with the good looks of a movie star, he was hard to miss. Stu was known for his calm demeanor and ability to put people who came in contact with him immediately at ease.
Stu was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 24th, 1942 to George and Goldie Shandalove. Stu was a gifted athlete, who excelled in Basketball and any other sport that involved a ball! Stu went to James Madison High School in Brooklyn, NY. Stu's passion was art and basketball, which led him to the University of Kansas to play Freshman basketball and study in the Fine Arts department. It was at KU that Stu met Sherry, a midwest girl from Des Moines, IA. Upon graduation, they were married at Danforth Chapel on the beautiful KU campus, before moving to Chicago to go to work for the Best Brands Co. This was the beginning of a lifelong career in the Liquor and Wine business. Stu was excellent at his job and loved by all of his employee's and also by his customers. Many of which, over the years, became lifelong friends. Despite all his success in the business world, Stu's lasting legacy will be that of a Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Father-in-Law. Stu and Sherry had three children; Stacy, Stevi, and Scot, who's personalities and ethics are a true testament to raising kids right. Stu was very proud to be a Jayhawk and followed the basketball team like it was a religion. Stu excelled at tennis later in life and was also a ringer in a game of HORSE, which he loved to play with his kids and grandkids. His winning shot was always from the end of the driveway! Stu is survived by his wife, Sherry, his sister Ellen Shandalove, his children, Stacy Roberts (husband Pat), Stevi Cabral, Scot Shandalove (wife Kathleen), and his grandkids, Ian Roberts, Samantha Aquayo (husband Justin), Jack Roberts, Macen Cabral, Chase Cabral, Lily and Stella Shandalove, and his great-granddaughter, Henley Grace Aguayo. Stu's legacy is that of a life well lived!

I met Stu at our mutual cousins wedding, in 1960 maybe? He was just leaving Madison HS to go to Lawrence, Kansas to college. He was the most fabulous dancer I ever knew....plus he gave me his dog, Twister, who I adored. Stu was always super fun, supernice and a great guy. Sorry he left you all so soon but it sounds as if he had a good run. Sincerest condolences.
