Terri Lyn Neufeld
August 31, 1959 - April 26, 2021
Overland Park, Kansas - Terri Lyn Neufeld, age 61, died peacefully at home on the evening of April 26, 2021, after a nearly four year battle with progressive supranuclear palsy. She was born Terri Lyn Weese to Diane (Stratton) and Gary Weese, in Kansas City, MO. She grew up in Overland Park, attending Milburn Jr. High and Shawnee Mission North High School. While at North, she was an excellent student, being active in student congress, becoming a member of the National Honor Society, and lettering in tennis. It was at North where she met and started dating her future husband, Tim. After graduation, she attended DePauw University, was a member of Alpha Phi sorority, earned a bachelor's degree in art education and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Terri and Tim were married in June of 1980. While Tim was in his medical training at the University of Kansas Medical Center, they started their family, having their three wonderful children, Christopher, Lauren, and Courtenay. After the end of Tim's medical training, they took up residence in Lexington, KY. While supporting Tim starting his medical practice, and raising three children, she went to law school at the University of Kentucky, in Lexington, graduating with a Juris Doctor in 1995. Shortly thereafter, they moved back to Kansas City, residing in Overland Park ever since. She passed the bar in both Kansas and Missouri, and worked off and on for 10 years as a clerk/research attorney at the Missouri Court of Appeals in Kansas City.
By the time she finished working at the court, she took up golf. She would deny it, but she became a rather avid golfer. She was a founding member of the Nicklaus Golf Club at Lionsgate, served on the board there for six years, and held multiple positions including president of the Ladies Golf Association. She won three women's club championships, two couple's club championships and had three holes-in-one.
Her favorite activities included taking trips, whether going hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, going on couple's golf trips, seeking out new favorites in California wine country, enjoying the beaches, food, and wine in St. Barth's, and enjoying many, many trips to Hilton Head. She was tremendously difficult to beat in Scrabble or music trivia. She enjoyed gardening, painting, attending concerts, and Jayhawk basketball games.
She most enjoyed being surrounded by her children, their spouses, and four lovely grandchildren. Their laughter and energy brought her smiles and comfort as her health declined. She and Tim celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last summer, as able, with family and video messages.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years and soul mate of 45 years, Tim Neufeld, children, (spouses), and grandchildren, Christopher (Caroline) Neufeld of San Diego, CA, Lauren (Steven) Fallon, Savannah and Norah, of Overland Park, KS and Courtenay (Andrew) Davis, Penny and Murray, of Mission Hills, KS. She is also survived by her brother Mark (Laura) Weese, Ryan, Maria, of Olathe. She is pre-deceased by both her parents, Diane Lynn Crosby, and Gary Weese, as well as her step father, R. Lee Crosby. The family will have a private celebration of life.
