San Antonio, Texas - Thomas Eugene Lair, age 90, went home to be with the Lord and his sweet Charlotte on February 15, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. Tom was born on November 6, 1931 to Elmer and Ione Lair in Cartersville, Georgia.
Tom joined the U.S. Navy at 18, serving during the Korean War. After his time in the Navy, Tom attended Georgia Tech where he earned a degree in Textile Engineering in 1959.
He married Charlotte Ann Moore in 1955 and the two had four sons. He began his career with Callaway Mills in La Grange, GA before moving over to H.D. Lee. This move took the family to Kansas City, KS; Lebanon, MO; and back to Kansas City. He eventually earned the title of Senior Vice President of Manufacturing, Operations, and Distribution.
Tom and Charlotte's home life was filled with the boys' school and sporting events, including the time he spent on the School Board. It later became full of time with their eight grandchildren. Upon his retirement, Tom and Charlotte moved to Kimberling City, MO and enjoyed taking trips with their grandchildren. They eventually settled in San Antonio, TX for the warmer weather and to be closer to family.
Tom was a strong Christian man; a loving husband; a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; a respected boss; and a helpful friend to many.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Charlotte Lair; and grandson, Russell Lair. He is survived by his sisters, Ann Green and Mary Frances Holden; sons, Steve, Jeff (Debbie), Matt (Lisa), and Phil; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren, with one more one the way. Donations in his memory can be made to the Ball-Lair Endowed Scholarship at Abilene Christian University.
