Thomas Letch Obituary

Thomas Elliott Letch, 80, Leawood, KS, passed away Friday, April 18, 2008, at Kansas City Hospice House from complications of cancer. Tom was born in Osceola, Wisconsin, on February 20, 1928, to F. C. and Norma Olive Letch. Tom served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948. He graduated cum laude from the University Of Minnesota School Of Journalism in 1950. He worked for newspapers in Wisconsin and Minnesota. He joined Miller Publishing Co., transferring to K.C. in 1956. Tom was active with Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Order of Merit by the K.C. Order of Boy Scouts in 1970. He was active in his church, Children's Center for the Visually Impaired, and other community service. Tom enjoyed playing tennis. Tom is survived by wife - Kathryn Anne Nelson Letch; son and wife - Peter and Kathleen Letch; daughter – Barbara Letch; grandchildren – Andrea and husband Josh Ellis, Griffin Letch, and Gabriel Letch; great-grandchildren – Piper and Oliver Ellis; siblings – Jean Rooks, Dorothy Hansen, and John Letch; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be at Country Club United Methodist Church, 57th & Wornall Rd., April 26, 2008, 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to K.C. Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd.; Country Club United Methodist Church; and Children's Center for the Visually Impaired.
