Vicki Holt Obituary

Vicki Holt went to be with Jesus on February 26, 2007, after a two-and-a-half-year struggle with ovarian cancer. She died secure in the love of her Lord, family and friends while abounding in grace through the love she gave to all. Vicki is survived by her husband Barry, daughter Tori and son Scotty. Vicki was born in Houston, Texas on January 30, 1958. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, and moved to Kansas City in 1991. Vicki always exuded love and joy. She was a devoted wife and mother and a creative, fabulous teacher. She appreciated all the people who cared for her, she remembered each and every one. The family wishes to thank the incredible communities of Prairie Village, Asbury Methodist Church and Hillcrest Covenant Church who provided for Vicki and her family in innumerable ways. A memorial service and celebration of Vicki's life will be held at Hillcrest Covenant Church on Sunday, March 4 at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hillcrest Covenant Children's Ministry, 8801 Nall Avenue, Prairie Village, KS 66207 or Asbury Children's Center, 5400 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208. Thinking of Vicki today. She was one of my favorite patients. We were adding touches to the Christmas tree and my daughter pointed out a beautiful Angel ornament. It was the angel Vicki gave me. I still have it. I still remember our talks. I remember the love you had for your family. I can't even imagine how beautiful a heavenly Christmas is. Until we cross paths again.

I was touched by the many expressions of love and friendship at the memorial service in Houston. I was happy to be included. Vicki is a perfect example of an ordinary person with an extraordinary purpose in life. She touched the lives of many in a lasting way. Some people strive for success, some importance but few achieve significance ,and with that level of accomplishment comes the peace of God that means your life was worth living. That was Vicki!

Thank you for such a touching tribute to Vicki during her memorial service. I cannot begin to understand how much you have lost as a family and I know that all that we have lost as friends pales in comparison. Vicki was an amazing person and she truly brought love to everyone's life. She will be missed by many. I hope that God gives you comfort and strength in the days ahead as you learn to live without her presence daily in your lives.

Barry, Tory, and Scotty,
It was with the deepest sadness that I received the news of Vicki's passing into her heavenly home. I rejoice though because she is again smiling hugely now, as she has met and been embraced by Christ, whom she loved so dearly! I anticipate the blessing of seeing her again! Vicki blessed my time as a nurse at TCI and I TREASURE the scarf she hand-knitted for me as well as the red bell w/green ribbon she brought to each of us in Dec. '04. OH, what a joy she was on the earth!! Although I never had the pleasure of meeting you, Scotty; I do wish for each of you, to know how I grieve for you and pray that God's peace, wisdom, and direction will flow freely to your hurting souls. I loved Vicki and consider myself privileged to have been both her nurse and friend!

I've just read the entire guest book thus far...and it is abundantly clear that Vicki was (and still is, I know) a sunbeam to anyone her rays touched. I knew her at The University of Texas at Austin and I promise you her network of friends there shares the sense of loss her Kansas family (immediate and extended) feels. Thank you for making certain we knew of this. Particularly after a health battle, one can't help but be grateful a darling like Vicki isn't suffering anymore...that she feels SO much better...but I also know that her not being at arm's reach is such a loss. My sympathy, my hopes, and my love to all those who loved her. Count me a grateful member of that lucky group.

I did not know Vicki but my children attend Asbury Children's Center & they new Mrs. Holt, or as my daughter called her, "The chapel lady". At the children's Christmas program, I watched as the staff presented Mrs. Holt with a picture of the children with just their little hands visible on the tops of the chapel pews, just before they stood up while singing the B-I-B-L-E song. I thought that was so sweet that she loved to see the children's little hands before they popped up. The staff at Asbury are wonderful & it is obvious that everyone thought very highly of their very dear Mrs. Holt. When I found out that she helped to plan the chapel services for the children, I thought of my son last year at age 4 when he came home from pre-school & exclaimed that he couldn't wait to go to heaven & meet God & Jesus! Thank you Mrs. Holt for bringing that loving excitement into so many children's hearts. You have touched many & our thoughts are with your family now.

Barry, Tory and Scotty: I am so saddened to hear of Vicki's passing. She was one of the best teachers I have ever known. Her presence in a room made it light up and her smile was contagious. Parker sends a hug and does Britney. When I told Parker he responded by saying "Not Mrs. Holt. I am sad. Mom, she always wore her pearls in calss." You will be in our prayers and thoughts. Keep those heart memories close.

Dear Barry,

I only met Vicki, you, and the children at my brother Bob's annual pool parties, but loved meeting another Vicki! What an upbeat and happy lady. What a wonderful mother. I couldn't help but feel I had met a special person.

Besides sharing the same name, we also shared the fact that our children have the same names. What are the odds of that? I was meant to meet this exceptional woman.

To lose someone so special to soon takes faith to understand. Vicki made the world a better place. It is an honor to have met her and known her, if only a few times and for short whiles.

My prayers and thoughts are with the three of you and your families. God bless you all and peace in the fact that Vicki is in heaven.

Dear Barry, Tori, and Scotty,

You are all in our hearts and on our minds everyday. We pray to god to give you the strength you need to get through this time in your life.

I remember when I first met Vicki 13 years ago. She came to my house to take care of you Tori while she went back to work. I didn't know it on that day but a life long friendship was about to begin. You all became and still are a very special family to us.

Vicki was the most upbeat, kindest person I have ever met in my life. She would do anything for anyone at anytime. Even if this meant she had to go out of her way. She never let anything get her down even when she was so sick. She had the will and heart to fight as long as she could. She is truely going to be missed in our lives. I know she is sitting there next to god as a gardian angel just as she was on earth. She will somehow let us know she is watching over us everyday.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do. We love you and will always be there whenever you need us.

Dear Barry, Tori, and Scotty,

We are holding all three of you in our hearts.

Words cannot express how loved Vicki was.

Years ago, when Vicki was teaching at Asbury DayCare, she treated my young daughter, Rebecca, as if she was her own...and that meant everything to me.

Vicki loved all of you so dearly and she fought so hard. We celebrate her.

Please remember how much we care. We are here for all of you.

With love,
