He served in the United States Navy during World War II, attended and graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia, MO, and did graduate work at Central Missouri State University, University of Missouri at K.C., and Avila College. Ethel and Wes were members of South-Broadland Presbyterian Church for fifty-six years and involved with the church's education program as well as served as deacons and elders. He was a member of the Raymore Presbyterian Church at the time of his death. Wes was privileged to have served thirty-eight years in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School District ending his educational career during the year 1985 as a secondary school principal. In 1969, Wes assisted the Local Built-Roofers Union and Contractors, establish and apprentice- training program for its members and helped run the program for twenty years. The program received national recognition for effective training of roofer apprentices. During the years of the 80's, he and his wife formed a co-ed softball team composed of their sons and son's wives, daughter, nieces, nephews, and their young friends. This group played softball games within the Kansas City Parks & Recreation facilities for eleven years, was competitive, and members had a BALL. Wes, in retirement volunteered as an AARP-IRS Tax Counselor for the Elderly, counselor for Medicare- Medicaid concerns, and was able to assist many person with tax and Social Security concerns. Ten years was spent helping to clean up the highways, by-ways of a small section of Interstate 435, near their home. In year 1989, Wes, with the assistance of his very capable wife Ethel and a few dedicated mature interested men softball players, founded the Kansas City Metropolitan 50+ Softball League. Wes served as president of the organization for seventeen years and then was declared Chairman Emeritus. This group had, at one time, 700 men and women members, and information about the league may be found at www.kcseniorsoftball.com. Ethel and Wes visited seven foreign countries and have played softball together in four of those countries. After this experience, they decided that they could play softball less expensively in the good ole U.S. of A. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the Memorial Fund at South-Broadland Presbyterian Church, 7850 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO. 64131 (816-523-7326). M

Just found out that Wes has left for heaven. Sorry that I did not get a chance to say goodbye. From those interesting days at West High to present, he was always a person to look up to. I will miss him and his phone calls. My prayers to the family.

I just learned today that Wes made his transition and his services were held yesterday. While I'm happy for him, knowing that he is at peace and resting in the loving, everlasting arms of the Lord, I feel a sense of sadness for family and friends who I know already miss him. The good news is that his spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of those who cherish his memory. I remember him well during our years of partnership I helped establis between the Federal Aviation Administration, Ashland Middle School, and later Northeast Middle School. We shared many fun times working to help those bright young minds prepare for their future through our school/community partnership program. I last saw him a year or so ago and it was like a reunion. He was a wonderful soul! I am grateful that God allowed our paths to cross. To the family--I know that the light of God surrounds you; the love of God enfolds you; the power of God protects you; and, the presence of God watches over you. Wherever you are, God is, and all is well.

To the family of Wesley Weddle, I'm most sadden to finally hear the news of your father passing. I was fortunate to be able to visit him several times during his last two weeks of life and particularly on Sunday March 24th when he asked me to pray along with him. Mr. Weddle touched a many of lives throughout his illustrious years in education. You were a friend, educator and a father image to me and you will never be forgotten!

Jane, Stan, Terry and Terri, our deepest heart felt sympathies go out to you all. What a loss your family has suffered this past year. Your parents were the kindest, sweetest people I've met and were not only good friends and neighbors to us but treated our daughter like she was their granddaughter. I can't even begin to count the wonderful times we've shared with them. The day they moved out of the neighborhood was a very sad day for us. But we kept in touch and still got together often. Anyone who knew your parents were changed for the better because of them. Our deepest sympathy.
