Bill and I started at IRS on the same day back in January 1976, almost exactly 50 years ago. We became good friends over the years. He became known to us as Wild Bill, because once after a night out in Westport he found himself driving home along some railroad tracks. True story. We once shared an apartment together after my first wife and I divorced. We travelled together several times, once through a long, cold and frigid night to witness a toal eclipse of the sun up in Canada, another time up to see Pope John Paul II in Des Moines. We maintained our friendship all through the years, long after I had moved away out to Oregon. He would call several times a year to update me on the Chiefs, the Royals, the Jayhawks, or more often just to keep me informed about people we had both known in the past. I last saw him about 5 or 6 years ago back in Lawrence with another good friend Rick Younger. He was one of my best friends ever. This makes me so sad. Oh, and we were also both in attendance in Kemper Arena the time Darryl Dawkins shattered the backboard with a massive dunk, the first time anyone had ever done that. Bill, I am going to miss you so much ...

In the late 1970s or early 1980s, Bill was a co-worker of mine at the IRS building on Bannister Road. He stands out in my mind as one of the funniest and most clever people I have ever met. When I transferred to another Federal agency, we didn´t stay in touch, but it´s amazing to me that I can remember him so clearly. Please accept my sincere condolences on Bill´s passing.
