ZACHARY WEDDLE Obituary

Zachary Jay Weddle, 55, passed away peacefully at his home on October 28, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. Zac will be remembered by his loving wife of 29 years, Terri, and their children, Leigh Ann and Brian. He is also survived by his father, Wesley Weddle, two brothers, Stanley J. and Wesley T. Weddle; a sister, Jane Ann and husband Craig Langenberg, his mother-in-law, Carol Y. George, as well as many other loving family members. Zac was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel I. Weddle and father-in-law, Charles M. George. Zac and Terri were married at South Broadland Church on Dec. 18, 1982. Zac joined the KCMO Fire Department in July 1978, was promoted to driver in January of 1988 and Fire Captain in March of 1994. He spent the final years of his career as Captain at Station 24 until he retired in 2009 after 32 years of dedicated service. He returned to the KCFD as a dispatcher in 2011. Zac was an avid bowler and owned and operated The Bowlers Pro Shop for 22 years. He enjoyed many activities including cycling, bowling, softball and boating. He loved to take "his" dog, Giovanni for rides and to run errands with him. He was most happy at the helm of his boat at the lake and spending time out in the sun. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Floral Hills Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life for Zac will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment Fund (SAFE) at www.kc-crime.org/safe. I´m so sorry I missed everything! His passing and celebration of life! Zach and I went to middle school, high school, played softball together and against each other, and bowled together. Zach was a fireman along with my brother and many other Center High School grads that served as firefighters! You are truly missed!

Terri and family, I am so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful, kind man. He will be missed by everyone who knew him and even by those who had the opportunity to just meet him. I know that he made me smile every time he came in to visit us at Baron MINI. He loved his MINIs and I was so blessed to get to know him just a little and will miss him always. I wish you all the very best and please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Terri, Leigh Ann, Brian, Wes and Family,
Our hearts go out to you all during this time and know that Chris and I are here for you. Chris and I both feel grateful and blessed to have shared so many memories with Zac, Terri and family. Zac certainly enriched our lives by loving us, showing us how to be a better friend and engaging us in life. We are truly blessed and forever grateful. We are looking forward to being reunited with him again some day. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always available to share some "remember when" stories. Love you all.

I made a typo in my earlier entry. Although I did not know Zach that well I certainly did know him in High School days. I did not mean to type "the nicest guy I never knew" I meant to type "the nicest guy I ever knew" because he does stand out in my memory as being someone who was always happy and had a great sense of humor. I apologize for the typo and my prayers are with his family.

I think Zach may well be the nicest guy I never knew at Center Senior High School Class of 1975. We did not stay in touch, but I remember him very clearly. My prayers are with his family.

My mom was at the cemetery to visit her husband/my dad as well as her dad who was a fire captain in the horse drawn days then motorized. He died in 1967. She saw the fire trucks and recalled her dad. She inquired whose funeral it was and found out he was also a fire captain. She at 85 remained inher car and "attended" the burial for your loved one. She with her dad, my grandpa saluted your loved one in the brotherhood, family of fireman. May you be graced with special memories of the one you loved, his love for you and his life of service to others.
