James W. Banks, 83, of Geneva, IL died on August 5, 2021 at Bria of Geneva in Geneva, IL. He was born on October 20, 1937 in Lombard, IL, the son of James Edward Banks and Mariam (nee Heiskell) Banks. He studied architecture at the University of Illinois and worked in private practice for several years, after which he was employed at Fermilab in Batavia, IL. After retirement, he studied art and became a proficient water-colorist. He had been a member of the Wayne Art League. He was a voracious reader and his lifelong hobbies included gourmet cooking, photography, military board games and target shooting. He was a longtime member and officer of the Elgin Rifle Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward Patterson Banks. He is survived by his cousin James Heiskell, Jr., of Bozeman, MT and his close friends the Gosselin family of Batavia. All services will be privately held. Memorials may be directed to the Shriners Hospitals for Children
