John W. Jarvis

John W. Jarvis, age 97, of Geneva, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015 at Delnor Hospital.

After graduating from Geneva High School he went to two art schools in Chicago. He was a cartoonist whose work appeared in magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post, Colliers, Parade and others.

During WWII, he was a soldier in the Army Air Force, later he worked for the Western Newspaper Union in Frankfort, KY. where he met his wife, Thelma Lee. After returning to Geneva he was employed at the Aurora Beacon News where he retired as Chief Artist thirty years later.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma (Lee) Jarvis; his parents, Frank and Stella; and a brother, Francis Jarvis.

He is survived by a daughter, Debbie Jarvis (Tom) Meitl of Geneva; two sons, David (Karen)Jarvis of Bolingbrook, and Frank Jarvis of Geneva. Three grandchildren, Matthew (Rachel) Meitl, Timothy and Alyssa Jarvis. Two great grandchildren, Audrey and Bennett Meitl.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Contributions maybe made to the United Methodist Church of Geneva or Delnor Hospital.
