AURORA – Marian H. Stephens, 93, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Provena McAuley Manor.

She was born Nov. 4, 1917 in Little Rock, Ill., the daughter of the late Paul and Salisbury (Lower) Hatch.

Marian was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She attended West Aurora High School, and Illinois State University, obtaining a degree in education. She worked for 37 years at Stephens-Adamson Mfg. Co. in Aurora, working in several different capacities, including assistant secretary of the corporation. She was a member of Eastern Star, and was past president of the Zonta Club of Aurora. In 1975 she was named one of the Women of the Year by the Aurora YWCA, and in 1976 was named "Woman of Distinction" by the Aurora YWCA. She was a charter member and Past President of the Valley Chapter, National Secretaries Association, and was awarded the "Secretary of the Year" award by them in 1978. She was also a member of the Fox Valley Business and Professional Woman's Association. In her spare time, she logged in over 500 hours as a volunteer member of the White Cross Auxiliary of Copley Memorial Hospital and traveled extensively.

She is survived by her nephew, James Hatch of Little Rock, Ark.; her four nieces, Cecelia (John) Rothschild, New York, N.Y., Deborah (Sam) Chapin of Aurora, Colo., Patricia (Wray) McKenzie, of Big Rock, Ill., and Barbara (Steven) Johnson of Hurley, Wis.; her sister-in-law, Helen Hatch of Chicago; several great-nieces and- nephews; several great-great-nieces and -nephews; and her many other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy S. Stephens; her brothers, Albert Hatch and Donald Hatch; her sister, Marjorie Mickelson; and her sister-in-law, Betty Hatch, and brother-in-law, Robert Mickelson.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday April 15, 2011, at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60506. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 N. May St., Aurora, IL 60506. Interment will take place at Spring Lake Cemetery.
