Peter Margitan, Jr., 89, of Rochester, formerly of Geneva, Illinois, died Monday September 25, 2017 at Seasons Hospice near Rochester. Mr. Margitan had suffered a stroke earlier in the month.

Born February 24, 1928 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, he was the son of Peter and Alice (Flaa) Margitan. Growing up, he lived first, in Saint Paul, moving to Clayton and later, to Woodruff, Wisconsin, where he graduated from high school. He enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and served as an electrician's mate in the Navy Air Corp, until he was honorably discharged in 1949. He then attended Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, and graduated in 1953 with degrees in business and mathematics.

On October 17, 1953, he married Audrey Jarchow, in West Chicago, Illinois. The couple lived and raised their family in Geneva, Illinois. Peter worked at Furnas Electric in Batavia for 37 years, retiring in 1993 as corporate manager of information services. He was a sports enthusiast, particularly following Iowa State University. Since February 2016, he has resided in Rochester and enjoyed living independently at The Waters.

Peter is survived by his son, Michael (Karen) Margitan of Rochester; a daughter, Sherry Gibbs of Fort Myers, Florida; two grandchildren, Kristy Gibbs and Alex Gibbs, both of Fort Myers; and a great-grandchild, Raithe. Also surviving are his many friends, both old and new.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey in 1997.
