David Williams Obituary
David Glen Williams, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and lifelong resident of Little Shasta, passed away at his home on July 28, 2025. Born in Yreka on December 2, 1946, David was the son of Glen and Ruth (Brown) Williams. He lived a life deeply rooted in his family homestead.
In 1971, David married Carla Eileen Jackson, and together they raised three daughters – Kelly, Kimberly, and Kari. The family lived a simple life, raising sheep, pigs, and chickens, and tending a large garden. David, as well as his girls, all attended Little Shasta School, and David was the groundskeeper there for some years. The girls were all members of the Tablerock 4-H club, and David and Carla were active parent leaders. During fair week, David could always be found in the barns, helping the girls with their project animals.
David spent his entire career working for the United States Forest Service at the Goosenest Ranger District, initially as a Smoke Jumper, then in forestry, firefighting, and finally, transporting heavy equipment. He was a dedicated worker and loved being outside. He was known to carry a small fishing pole with him to ensure he never missed a chance to drop in a line when he came upon a stream. David was a man who found peace and joy in the simple pleasures of life.
David was known for his sense of humor, and he loved a practical joke. He shared funny comic strips and always selected humorous birthday cards for others. It was not uncommon for Christmas gifts to his grandkids to be given in some sort of puzzle box that had a code to be cracked in order to see what was inside. He was always finding ways to bring laughter to those around him.
David was an avid collector with a wide range of interests ranging from coins to fireworks. He loved to tinker and was always on the lookout for treasures that sparked his curiosity. His home was filled with items he crafted by hand. David was a skilled gunsmith and a proud member of the NRA. He loved fishing and local history. His connection with the land extended to the wildlife around him. In recent years, David took great joy in feeding the birds and quail that visited his yard. He was very proud that he was able to earn the trust of a feral cat that he simply called "Black cat." He also affectionately named a bobcat that was living in the blackberry bushes near his house "Bobby C." Whether crafting lures, tying flies, or making birdhouses, David's ingenuity and love for the outdoors were evident in all he did.
David is survived by his daughters, Kelly (Steven) Hunt of Redding, Kimberly (Michael) Judkins of Davis, and Kari (Thomas) Horne of San Diego. David was also a proud grandfather to Erin Mumford, Austin (Madelyn) Hunt, Emily Hunt, Adam Hunt, Isabella Horne, Gabriella Horne, and Kaylee Judkins. Grandson Austin and his wife Madelyn are expecting David's first great grandson this fall, who will be named in his honor. David's brother, Daniel Williams, lives in Hornbrook. They will all miss his quiet presence, mischievous spirit, and steady support.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Carla, his sisters Katherine Kinkade and Carolyn Scholz, and his great-granddaughter Sofia Mumford.
David was a member of the Grenada Community Berean Church, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow church members, especially at their potlucks. He was a man of few words but rich in kindness.
A graveside service will be held at Little Shasta Cemetery on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM, followed by a potluck reception at the Grenada Community Berean Church. All are invited to attend and share stories and memories of David's life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rescue Ranch in David's memory.
