John Schweiger Obituary

John Compton Schweiger, born on July 16, 1944, in Richmond, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home in La Fayette, Georgia, on July 30, 2025, at the age of 81, due to natural causes. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and commitment that will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and the communities he touched throughout his extraordinary life. John was the beloved son of Elva Pearl Compton and Edward Joseph Schweiger Senior. From a young age, he demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit that would define his career and personal life. He pursued higher education at Kansas State University, where he initially studied to become a veterinarian. However, after becoming a father, he shifted his focus toward sales, recognizing it as a lucrative way to support his growing family. His professional journey began with esteemed companies such as French's Foods, but he soon transitioned into a successful career as a Business Broker in California. His passion for real estate blossomed during his time with Century 21 in Ashland, Oregon. In 1984, he embarked on a venture that would become his crowning achievement: Coming Attractions Theatres. This company allowed John to combine his love for film and entertainment with his business acumen, leading to the establishment of thriving theatres that became beloved staples in the communities they served. John was not just a dedicated businessman; he was also a pillar of the Ashland community and beyond. His involvement with organizations such as the Raiders Association, Rotary, and Temple Emek Shalom demonstrated his commitment to civic duty. As an honorary member of the Elks and a generous supporter of sports programs for schools and colleges, John's big-hearted nature shone through in all he did for the community. His contributions to family entertainment and the arts enriched the lives of many and helped foster a sense of togetherness in the smaller communities where his theatres flourished. Outside of his professional life, John was a man of diverse interests and hobbies. He found joy in golf and fishing, and he was an avid collector of movie memorabilia and Browning collectibles. He had a zest for life that was infectious, drawing people in with his warmth and enthusiasm. John is survived by his loving life partner, Jane Farrell, with whom he shared many adventures with. He is also survived by his cherished family, including daughters Natalie, Monica, and Tara, his nephew, Edward Schweiger III, and his adored grandchildren: Tyler, Emma, and Riley Meenaghan, Sienna, Cole, and Corrine Packer as well as Jordyn, Payton and Cadyn Hartline. Each of them will carry John's spirit forward with love and remembrance. In his later years, John received compassionate care from the staff of Tapestry Hospice of Georgia. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who provided support and comfort during his final journey. They are also thankful to all the family and friends across the United States and around the world who touched John's life in so many meaningful ways. As we remember John Compton Schweiger, let us celebrate a life well-lived-a life of dedication to family, community, and the betterment of those around him. His legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew him, reminding us to live with passion, generosity, and a commitment to making parts of the world he touched, a better place.
