Blake Chavez Obituary

Kansas resident, 24

OSWEGO, Kan. - Blake Andrew Chavez, 24, of Oswego died Monday, July 1, 2013, when he drowned on the Neosho River at Oswego.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Oswego with the Rev. Bob Conway officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery at Oswego.

Derfelt Funeral Home in Oswego is in charge of arrangements.

He was born July 12, 1988, in Parsons.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Nancy and Calvin Jurgensen of Oswego; his father, Michael Chavez of Shelton, Neb.; brothers, Zachary Chavez and Caleb Jurgensen, both of Oswego, and Lazarus Chavez and Darius Chavez, both of Hulbert, Okla.; sisters, Moriah Chavez of Hulbert and Nikota Jurgensen of Oswego; grandparents, Wayne Meyer of Minden, Neb., Juan and Michela Chavez of Shelton and Jerald and Eileen Jurgensen of Gibbon, Neb.; and niece, Kamryn Chavez.

He had lived in Oswego most of his life. He graduated from Oswego High School with the class of 2006.

He was working at Weston's Industry in Oswego at the time of his death. Before that, he worked as a cook at Shredder Restaurant in Parsons.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oswego. He enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish and attend rock music concerts.
