Lt. Col. Cale W. Farquhar, 41, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away Friday, February 13, 2026 in Kansas City, Mo. The family invites all to join any or all services, Graveside Services with Military Honors will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Kearney Cemetery with reception to follow at Younes Conference Center North, Silver Ballroom. Army Memorial Ceremony will be held 1 p.m., Friday, February 27, 2026 at Frontier Chapel on Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Farquhar family to establish a college scholarship in Cale's name for a Cornhusker Boys State participant, honoring his lasting dedication to leadership and higher education. Cale served the United States Army with distinction, professionalism, and unwavering dedication throughout 18 years of honorable service. A proud officer of the Engineer Corps, he devoted his life to strengthening the Army's operational readiness and developing the leaders who would follow in his footsteps. At the time of his passing, he was serving with the Mission Command Training Program at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, as an Engineer Observer, Coach, and Trainer (OC/T). There he played a vital role in preparing units across the Army for the challenges of modern warfare. His steady leadership, deep technical expertise, and genuine commitment to excellence shaped the readiness of countless Soldiers and organizations.
Cale was raised by his parents Mitch and Lori in Elm Creek, Neb., along with his two brothers Asa and Morgan. A graduate of Elm Creek High School, he participated in numerous sports and was active in Boys Scouts earning his Eagle Scout. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL) with a Civil Engineering degree in 2008 and achieved his master's degree in Military Construction Management from Missouri University Science and Technology in 2013.
While attending UNL, Cale met Jenna (Brockhoff) Farquhar while attending a freshman chemistry class. They were married in Lincoln, Neb. in 2008 and welcomed their daughter Alice in 2013.
Cale was a proud alumnus and longtime counselor of the American Legion Cornhusker Boys State program, where he frequently served with the Legislature. As 1st Vice President of the Cornhusker Boys State Corporation, he worked tirelessly to strengthen and expand the program. He believed deeply in its mission and remained committed to ensuring future generations experienced the same leadership and civic opportunities that meant so much to him.
LTC Farquhar's duty assignments included: Deputy Joint Base Engineer while deployed to Shindand Air Base in Afghanistan; Executive Officer of the Headquarters Company for 94th Engineer Battalion out of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Commander of the 59th Mobility Augmentation Company deployed to the Republic of Korea in support of the 2nd Infantry Division and in home station at Fort Hood, Texas; Engineer OC/T at the National Training Center as part of the Phoenix and Sidewinder Teams; and Battalion Operations Officer & Executive Officer of the 8th Engineer Battalion, part of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team at Fort Hood, Texas.
His professional military education included: Intermediate Level Education; Engineer Captain's Career Course; Engineer Explosive Ordnance Course; Joint Engineer Operations Course; Unit Search Advisor Course; Unit Movement Officer Course; and Airborne School.
His service and leadership were recognized through numerous awards and decorations, including: Bronze Star Medal; two Meritorious Service Medals; two Army Commendation Medals; two Army Achievement Medals; Joint Meritorious Unit Award; Air Force Meritorious Unit Award; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Korean Defense Service Medal; Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; two Overseas Service Ribbons; NATO Medal; Parachutist Badge; and the Driver's Badge.
Throughout his career, LTC Farquhar was known for his humility, integrity, and genuine care for the Soldiers he led. He was a mentor, a trusted leader, and a steady presence in every formation he joined. His influence extended far beyond his duty positions; he shaped careers, strengthened teams, and inspired confidence in all who served alongside him. Above all, he was a devoted family man, attributing much of his success to the love and devotion of his wife, Jenna, and daughter, Alice. They were the center of his life and the source of his greatest pride. His love for them was evident in every chapter of his journey.
Lieutenant Colonel Cale W. Farquhar leaves behind a legacy of service, leadership, and devotion to duty. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and the soldiers he led. His life stands as a testament to honor, courage, and selfless service, and he will be remembered with profound respect and gratitude.
Cale is survived by his wife, Jenna and daughter, Alice of Leavenworth, Kan.; parents, Mitch and Lori Farquhar of Elm Creek, Neb.; brothers, Asa (Meghan) Farquhar of Elkhorn, Neb. and Morgan (Sally) Farquhar of Holdrege, Neb.; and nieces and nephews, Jay, Emma, Carolyn, Lillian, June, Claire, and Luke.
Cale was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Jay and Doris Thornton and paternal grandfather, Robert Farquhar.
