Eugene Ortgiesen Obituary
July 17, 1944 - October 25, 2024
Eugene "Butch" L. Ortgiesen, age 80, of Kearney, passed away Friday, October 25, 2024, at CountryHouse Assisted Living in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2024, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor John Rasmussen officiating. Burial will follow the service at 1:30 p.m., at St. John's Cemetery South of Wilcox. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Butch was born on July 17, 1944, to LaVern and Charlotte (Johnson) Ortgiesen and was raised on farm near Wilcox, NE. He was baptized at St. Peters Lutheran Church on Aug. 20, 1944. He then graduated from Wilcox High School with the class of 1962. In 1966 he graduated from Kearney State College and furthered his education at UNL to obtain his master's degree in teaching. He married his high school sweetheart Jeanne Harms on Sept. 12, 1965, and raised two boys. Butch taught at St Paul, NE and Polk NE and was a principal at Norton, KS. He retired from teaching in 1975 to return to the family farm.
Butch was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting but his real passion was spending time with his family.
Survivors include sons: Chad (Cara) Ortgiesen and Reggie (Jennifer) Ortgiesen, both of Wilcox; grandchildren: Garrett (Lily) Ortgiesen of Hildreth, NE, McKenna, Claire, Dagan, and Cole Ortgiesen of Wilcox; sisters: Gayla Hunt of Holdrege, NE and JoAnn Alderman Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Eugene Hunt and Robert Alderman, sister-in-law Joan Stratman, his wife Jeanne Ortgiesen and his sister Mona Garrelts.
