Jean Castaneda, age 46, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Kearney Regional Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Services are entrusted to O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com.
Jean was born on May 29, 1979, in Dover, New Hampshire, to James and Onna (Dalrymple) VanderBloeman. Although born in New Hampshire, Jean called Central Nebraska home; living in St. Paul, Cotesfield, Grand Island and has lived the last 10 years in Kearney.
Jean was married to her husband, Antonio Castaneda, for 20 years. Together they built a life centered around family, love, and perseverance. Jean was a devoted mother of six children and poured her heart into caring for and supporting them through every stage of life.
She was well known in the Kearney community, having worked for many years at Smoker Friendly and Family Fresh. Just a week prior to her passing, Jean had begun a new position with the United States Postal Service, looking forward to the opportunities this new chapter would bring.
Left to cherish Jean's memory are her husband, Antonio Castaneda; her children, Braydon VanderBloeman, Jesus Cervantes, Mauricio Castaneda, Cruz Castaneda, Nicolas Castaneda, his significant other, Blair Bieber, Danika Welch and her significant other, Courtney King; her parents, James and Onna VanderBloeman; her siblings, Lori Kerrigan and James R. VanderBloeman and his wife, Kristen; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Dorothy Daniels, Ellen and Lawrence Dalrymple, William Gorman; as well as her uncles, Richard VanderBloeman and Dennis Peters.
Jean's life, though far too short, was marked by deep love, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Those who knew her find comfort in trusting that she is now at peace, held in a grace greater than this world.
