Karon Kay Bisbee, 79 years of age, of Wilcox, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Neb.
Karon was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., on March 3, 1946, the first of four children, born to Albert and Betty (McKittrick) Steel. She spent most of her growing up years in the Fremont, Neb. area. She attended elementary schools in Nickerson and Fremont, Neb. She graduated from Fremont High School with the 1964 class.
After high school she attended Toccoa Fall College until January of 1967 when she returned to Nebraska. On August 26th, 1967, Karon was united in marriage to Thomas Bisbee in Fremont, Neb. The couple initially made their home on the campus of Dana College in Blair, Neb. They then moved to Blue Hill, Neb. for two years. Then to Brush, Colo., for two years before settling in Wilcox, Neb., for 53 years. They were blessed with five children, 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren (and two more great-grandchildren on the way!).
Karon's life was rooted in her faith, family and friends. She asked Jesus to be her personal savior in 1960 and was soon baptized on a following Easter Sunday. She was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018. Though this disease became more aggressive this winter, she remained steadfast in her devotion to the Lord. She died peacefully and with confidence she was going to meet her savior, Christ Jesus.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose life reflected Christ through her steadfast love, patience and grace. She found her greatest joy in caring for her family, praying over them and making sure they always knew how deeply they were loved. More than anything, she treasured time spent together as a family.
Karon was preceded in death by grandparents, Herbert and Elsie Steel, Harry and Hazel McKittrick; parents, Albert and Betty Steel; in-laws, William and Margaret Bisbee; brother, Kenneth Steel; great-grandson, Theodore Bisbee.
Karon is survived by her husband, Thomas Bisbee of Wilcox; daughter, Susan (James) Casey of Correctionville, Iowa; sons, John (Donna) Bisbee of Kearney, Neb., Michael (Jill) Bisbee of Seward, Neb., Caleb Bisbee of Oxford, Neb., Luke (Jamie) Bisbee of Grand Island, Neb.; grandchildren, Paige (Dillon) Doll, Hunter (Kaili) Casey, Creighton Casey, Aaron (Sarah) Bisbee, Rachel Bisbee, Isaiah (Shelbi) Kottich, Breanna Bisbee, Mason Bisbee, Lily Bisbee, Daisy Bisbee, Isaac Bisbee, Natalie Bisbee, Owen Bisbee and Ryan Bisbee; great-grandchildren, Priscilla and Penelope Doll, Preslee and Pierce Kottich and Madelynne Bisbee; siblings, Douglas (Joyce) Steel and Larry (Phillys) Steel; along with other relatives, and friends.
