Lennis D. Sytsma
Lennis D. Sytsma, 67 of Kearney passed away Monday, March 11,2024 of natural causes at his home in Kearney. Memorial services will be held at 2:00p.m. Friday, March22, 2024 at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney with Rev. Bruce Beebout officiating. Lennis was born May 22,1956 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Milton and Carolyn (Edson) Sytsma. He was raised in rural Brady, NE and attended Brady High School, graduating valedictorian with the class of 1974 and earning a Regents Scholarship. Lennis furthered his education by attending Kearney State College where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in Education. Growing up, Lennis worked for many farmers in the area and helped his dad on the farm. After graduating from Kearney State, he taught at Imperial High School and Stromsburg High School. He later worked as a software troubleshooter at Ed Tech in Kearney. Recently , Lennis worked various jobs in the Kearney area. He was a supporter of the Kearney Community and of UNK basketball. Lennis had many friends and loved his family, especially his mother. He always enjoyed the company of family and friends, oftentimes reminiscing for hours. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Carolyn Sytsma of McCook, NE; sisters, Janene Goosey of Phoenix, AZ and Judy (Craig) Stous of Lincoln; brother, Kent Sytsma of Omaha. Also, nieces; Megan (Kyle)Schuelke, Chelsey (Michael) Rose, Madison (Ryley) Cidlak, Melissa Sytsma, nephews; Nathan (Jenni) Goosey, Cory Goosey, Daniel (Kate) Stous, and Colton Sytsma. He also had several great- nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Lennis was preceded in death by his father, Milton Sytsma. Final resting place will be at the Gothenburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation c/o O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home, 4115 N Ave, Kearney, NE 68847. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com.
