Leola Ludden Obituary

Kearney resident, 87

DES MOINES, Iowa - Leola A. Ludden, 87, of Kearney, Neb., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Kavanagh House Hospice in Des Moines.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney with the Rev. Jerry Ness officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and before services Wednesday.

She was born May 9, 1921, in Gibbon, Neb., to Charles and Cora Belle (Winchester) Hibberd.

On July 9, 1943, she married Jack Ludden. He died in 1993.

Survivors include her son, Kerry Ludden and his wife, Jo, of Kearney; daughters, Nancy Goddard and her husband, Aron, of Windsor Heights, Iowa, and Sue Smith and her husband, Phil, of Prescott, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Wes Goddard, Abbey Jordan and her husband, Matt, Katie Bishop and her husband, Rob, and Art Johnson.

She grew up in Gibbon and graduated from Gibbon High School in 1938. She graduated from Kearney State Normal School in 1942. She taught one year at Huntley.

She and her husband lived in Texas where she worked at a church. Then she moved to Kearney while her husband served during World War II. She worked in the administrative office at Kearney Normal School.

She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and the Eastern Star. She liked sewing, gardening, painting and bowling.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Central Iowa.

My thoughts and prays to the family at this time of loss. Fond memories of your Mother as our families were neighbors. We grew up together, attended schools together and had a cherished childhood memories in the farming community that still return and bring smiles to many.

We remember Leola & Jack from church at St. Luke's. They were always in attendance and had so much to offer when they were in good health. They are together now & at peace.
