Michael Jay Latter

A funeral service for Michael J. Latter will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, rural Wilcox, Nebraska.

Michael Jay Latter, 53 years of age, of Fullerton, Nebraska, formerly of Wilcox, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Arbor Care Center in Fullerton. Michael was born on August 14, 1970, in Minden, Nebraska, the eldest of two children, born to Larry and Debra (Michel) Latter. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox. Michael was raised in Wilcox where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and driving his '67 Plymouth Sport Fury. During his school years, he participated in Speech, Choir, Band, Drama and One-Act, as well as football and wrestling. He attended and graduated from Wilcox High School with the class of 1988.

He then pursued higher education at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska and UNK in Kearney, Nebraska. Following his education, Michael began working at Pizza Hutepsico, which took him to North Platte and Omaha, Nebraska, and later, Fort Worth, Texas.

Michael then moved to Fort Worth, where he worked for over 20 years. He was employed most recently as Deli Manager at Kroeger Foods, a Transportation Supervisor for DFW Airport, and was a store manager for Kelly-Moore Paints. He enjoyed gardening, singing, watching movies from his large collection of movies, and he loved to fish. He could be found fishing 2-3 times a week!

He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox, and a singing group, "The Maker's Dozen".

Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents: Lorenz and Mabel (Golay) Latter; William Theodore "Ted" Michel; and Almira L. (Irwin) Michel; four uncles; and an aunt.

Michael is survived by: his parents, Larry and Debra Latter of Wilcox; his sister, Michelle Brisnehan and her husband, Jim of Grand Island, Nebraska; two nephews: Zach Brisnehan of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Grady Brisnehan of Grand Island; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends all the way from Nebraska to Texas.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Michael's honor, and kindly suggested to the JDRF. (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
