Robert Stittle Obituary

Kearney resident, 61

KEARNEY - Robert Jerome Stittle, 61, of Kearney died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike McDonald officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery with military honors by the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team in conjunction with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759 and American Legion Post 52 of Kearney.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the church with a vigil at 7 p.m.

O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Feb. 13, 1950, in Kearney to Rupert and Irene (Schuller) Stittle.

On Oct. 14, 1972, he married Phyllis M. Butler in Cozad.

Survivors include his wife; son, Brett Stittle of Doniphan; his mother of Ravenna; sisters, Shirley Lockhorn and Patricia Loeffelholz and her husband, Jerome, all of Pleasanton, Sharon Marzolf and her husband, Ed, of Gibbon, Carol Kugler and her husband, Victor, and Marcia Olson and her husband, Gary, all of Red Cloud, Beverly Macek and her husband, Don, of Ravenna, Annette Finke and her husband, Mike, of York and Cathy Hilker and her husband, Barry, of Westminster, Colo.; brothers, Donald Stittle and his wife, Toni, and Ken Stittle and his wife, Cyndy, all of Ravenna; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

He was a 1968 graduate of Ravenna High School and a 1970 graduate of Central Community College-Hastings. He entered into the U.S. Army on July 22, 1970, and served during the Vietnam War. In February 1972, Robert was honorably discharged.

He was employed by the city of Kearney as a senior maintenance worker for 18 years. Robert was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Kearney American Legion Post 52 and VFW Post 759. He was an avid sports fan and was always there to offer a helping hand.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Jerome Stittle.

Memorials are suggested to AseraCare Hospice.
