Interment will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, rural Maxwell, Nebraska, with Military Honors provided by the North Platte Honor Guard in conjunction with the United States Navy Funeral Honors Team.
Ronald Charles Andrijeski, 84, died on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Ron was born on January 22, 1939, at St. Catherine's Catholic Hospital in McCook, Nebraska, the eldest of two boys, born to George and Dorothy (Romine) Andrijeski. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann's Catholic Church about one mile north of the home farm. Ron received his education from McCook High School, and graduated in 1957. Ron and his best friend, Mike Hug joined the Navy in 1958. They were together in basic training and in Florida at the same time.
In December 1959, Ron was united in marriage to Donna Klumpe at Wellfleet, Nebraska. Following his honorable discharge, Ron returned home and began farming just east of his family farm. The couple remodeled a house and together raised three children: Mike, Tami, and Mark.
They moved to Kearney, Nebraska, and Ron worked at Rockwell Mfg. The family moved to Holdrege, and Ron began working for Lloyd Waller Feedlot. He then began working at the CO-OP in the fertilizer department for the next 24 years.
Ron loved cheering on Husker Football in his Husker Man Cave. He was very proud of it!
On June 2, 1990, Ron was united in marriage to Phyllis "Phyl" Hadwiger. They continued to live in Holdrege and Ron began working for Phelps County as a maintainer driver, covering mostly the Funk, Nebraska area.
Ron always enjoyed both, playing baseball and coaching, for many years. He was proud that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren received the benefit of his knowledge of sports. He was a golfer until his shoulder wouldn't allow anymore swinging!
He was an artist at gutting and remodeling houses into castles, and was able to, with the help of Phyl, daughter, Tami and son-in-law, Darren Mues. They bought their first rental house in 1991. Ron worked extremely hard on those 15 houses! Phyl was always right behind him; painting, picking out flooring, counter tops, and appliances, and even new plug-ins and light switches, being reminded, "they are just rentals", but to Ron and Phyl, they were much more! Ron and Phyl bought back his old house at 821 Miller Street and spend two years putting a basement under it, remodeling, and adding a garage. He had always wanted to do that, and celebrated the opportunity.
Ron always enjoyed staying busy. He picked up mowing jobs and loved every bit of: mowing, bagging, repairing sprinkler heads, planting flowers, and anything else that needed to be done at All Saints Catholic Church, Dr. Doug Hohman Dentistry, and several other lawns.
He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law; his brother, Marvin; and was the rock and stability for Phyl and family, when her son, Jeffrey died in 2008.
Remembering and celebrating the life of a man who didn't stop talking and being loved by his wife, Phyl Andrijeski of Holdrege; his children: Mike Andrijeski and wife, Jenay of Oxford, Nebraska; Tami Mues and husband, Darren of Holdrege; and Mark Andrijeski and wife, Carla of Holdrege; grandchildren: Steven Andrijeski; Brooke Slingwine and husband, Matt; Paige Anderson and husband, Trent; Matt Crooker and wife, Aleece; and Sondra Crooker and her significant other, Jeff Ironshell; great-grandchildren: Trey and Tegan Weaver; Trynitee Ironshell; Cloey and Ryker Crooker; Dawson Anderson; and Clayton Slingwine; step-daughter, Lori Doellman and husband, Steve from Bloomington, Illinois, and their three boys: Justin, Drew, and Bradley; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
