Thomas Heaston

A funeral service for Thomas L. Heaston will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating.
An interment with military honors will be held at the Arbor Cemetery at Stockville, Nebraska, overlooking Medicine Creek.
Thomas Lynn Heaston, 81 years of age, of Elm Creek, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Thomas was born in Hastings, Nebraska, on February 6, 1944, the third of three children, born to Orville and Beulah (Wheeler) Heaston. He started attending school in Giltner, Nebraska, and in 1957, they moved to Kearney, and he graduated from Kearney High School with the class of 1962.
In 1962, Thomas enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served for three years. He spent time in California and Greenland as a radio tech.
On April 16, 1966, Thomas was united in marriage to Barbara Harbert in Curtis, Nebraska, and to this union three children were born: Cynthia Lynn, John Thomas, and Shawn McMillan. Thomas traveled the country working on and repairing grain dryers for many years. He was a talented master electrician and owned his own business, Tom's Electric Service. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Thadea Eldridge and her husband, Russ; and Chloanne Heitz and her husband, Sam.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Barbara Heaston of Elm Creek; three children: Cynthia Heaston of Elm Creek; John Heaston and his wife, Genevieve of Lincoln; Shawn McMillan and his wife, Shari of Appleton, Wisconsin; three grandchildren: Mary, Maxwell, and Samuel Heaston; long-time friend, Kenneth Butler and his wife, Vi; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Thomas' honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
