Verla Jean Stryker, 92, of Kearney, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at her home.
Memorial services will be on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 1 p.m., at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney. Pastor Ken Hutson will officiate and burial will be at St. Ann's Cemetery in Lexington, Neb. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family, to be designated later. Verla was born on August 18, 1932, in Tilden, Neb., to Clarnce E. and Anna L. (Myer) Danes. She attended school in Elgin, Neb. She married Ed Stryker on December 6, 1948, in Neligh, Neb. Four sons were born to this union, Ronald, Charles, Kenneth and David. Verla and Ed lived in several communities throughout the years including Wood River, Shelton, Lexington, Overton, Miller, Saratoga, Wyo., and Kearney. She worked as a private duty nurse for a number of years and also as a supervisor at MNIS. She also worked at Bethphage in Axtell. Verla was a member of the Eagles, Legion and Elks. She enjoyed playing cards, camping, cooking, baking, traveling and dancing.
Surviving relatives include her sons, Ronald and Pam Stryker of Eddyville, Neb,, Charles and Christy Stryker of Eddyville, Neb., Kenneth Stryker of Kearney, Neb.; daughter-in-law, Marlys Stryker of Hildreth; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; numerous other family members and friends.
Verla was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; son, David; sisters, Viola, LaVina, Loretta, Norma, Betty Lou, Donna and Marva Lee; brothers, Wayne and Irvin.
