Alan Cook Obituary

Charles Alan Cook (Alan), 61, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Celebration of Life for Alan on Saturday, February 1,2025, from 3pm-6pm, at the Military Heritage Alliance. 1600 W Russell St, Sioux Falls, SD 57104 Alan was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on October 19, 1963. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where he was raised. Alan was a bright child who was interested in sports, especially football, and he learned to play the piano by ear. When Alan turned 18 he joined the US Army, serving proudly as a Forward Observer in Germany. His kids were the light of his life. He was a simple man who enjoyed motorcycles, music, fishing, writing, cooking and baking bread. He had a real love for classic rock and roll, making it to dozens of concerts over the years. He shared all that he had with others. No matter what job he did - as a welder, mechanic, roofer, siding installer, and property manager - he always brought humor into the workplace and made the work fun for others. His poetry is deep and introspective, reflecting his abiding love of family and friends. Even when it hurt, the love that he had for his children Matthew, Andrew, Alison, Jade, and Dalton never faltered. Alan was preceded in death by his sister Catherine (Jeanne) Lasich, who was one of his best friends, and by his father Clarence Cook. He will be dearly missed by his children; his mother Dorothy Ellis; his siblings Roger Cook, De' Lona Kuminecz, Paul Cook, Yvonne Boll, David Vrooman, and Frank (Bill) Vrooman Jr.; his many nieces and nephews; and all the friends he met along the way. A burial will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery on a later date.

I'll miss you dad... even though I couldn't get to know you in your later life, the memories from the past will always fill me with both sorrow and happiness. I'm just glad you're in a better place, somewhere you can listen to all the music you want and have any drink you'd ever imagine. I hope you're watching over me as I move through this life as your daughter. I love you more than you'll ever know or even imagine. I wish we got the experience we deserved together, but maybe this was just a way of the universe telling us it's okay now. Sleep well, father
