Bette Bauman Obituary

Bette Lou Bauman passed away peacefully September 7, 2021, at the age of 94. Funeral arrangements are pending for later this month.

Bette was born September 8, 1926, to Magnus and Effie (Bakke) Monger on the family farm by Sherman, South Dakota. She was welcomed by a brother and a sister and later 2 more sisters would join the family. She was baptized and confirmed at Highland Lutheran Church which was located within 2 miles from the family farm. Bette attended Sunnycrest Country School in District 124, through 8th grade, then attended Jasper High School graduating in 1944. After graduation, she moved to Sioux Falls where she became employed as a secretary, first at John Morrell and Co., then at Coon and Coon Law Firm, and then at Sioux Falls Gas Company.

On December 28, 1946, Bette was united in marriage at Highland Lutheran Church to Walter Bauman. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed in several areas near Jasper. Between 1947 and 1955, Bette and Walt had 4 children: Linda, Edward, Brian, and Nancy. In 1963, the family moved to the Monger family farm where they resided until 1973. Bette and Walt had many friends who also had children of these ages and had many enjoyable gatherings.

Bette worked at the Glass House in Ihlen, MN from 1960 to 1973. From 1947 to 1973, Bette was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper. Her children were members of the Eden Jolly Juniors 4-H club where Bette was the sewing leader for many years. In 1973, Bette and Walt moved to Garretson SD where they owned and operated Walt's Place. During this time Bette also worked as a nurse's aid at the Palisades Manor Nursing Home in Garretson for 13 years. While in Garretson, Bette became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson, where she was an active member of the Ladies Aid and the Executive Board, and she was also active in the quilting group. For several years she was an ambulance attendant and volunteered at Palisades Nursing Home and delivered Meals on Wheels. In 2003, they retired and moved back to Jasper MN, where she again became a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Bette was a member of several card clubs and Jasper Senior Citizens, enjoyed playing Dominoes and other games, doing crafts, and making quilts. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren and made quilts for all her children and grandchildren.

In 2015, Bette moved to Sunrise Village where she enjoyed the staff and fellow residents. In 2020, she moved to Bethany Meadows/Homes in Brandon SD where she resided until she received her angel wings in 2021 one day before her 95th birthday.

Bette is lovingly remembered by her three children, Linda (Jerry) Tower of Jasper MN, Brian (Judy) Bauman of Sioux Falls SD, and Nancy Karl of Inver Grove Heights MN, her 5 grandchildren: Tammy (Brent) DeCroock of Farmington MN, Lisa (Monte) Stengel of Brandon SD, Chad (Nancee) Tower of Shawnee KS, Brett (Jessica) Bauman of Minneapolis, and Jessica (Mitch) Domiano of Bloomington, MN, and her 7 great grandchildren: Jordan and Tarah DeCrook, Hailey and Jenna Stengel, and Brayden, Amanda and Addison Tower.
